The Cowgirls’ stint in the Big 12 Tournament didn’t last long.
Oklahoma State fell to BYU 7-2 on Thursday in Oklahoma City in a game that the Cowgirls committed five errors in, resulting in a trio of unearned runs for the Cougars. Meanwhile, OSU had a hard time navigating BYU pitcher Chloe Temples, who threw a complete game. Temples struck out six and didn’t give OSU any free bases.
This result comes after the Cowgirls took two of three from Oklahoma this past weekend, as OSU climbed to No. 2 in the national rankings. Whether you call it a Bedlam hangover or just a bad day at the ballpark, the Cowgirls just couldn’t get going.
OSU was held scoreless until the sixth inning when Caroline Wang doubled to score Tallen Edwards, who doubled the at-bat before. Rosie Davis then hit a two-out single to bring home Sophie Page, who was pinch-running for Wang.

But that was all OSU’s offense could muster.
BYU got going early, scoring a pair of runs in the second inning before adding three in the fourth and another two in the sixth. Those innings coincided with the Cowgirls’ fielding troubles, as OSU had an error in the second, two in the fourth and two in the sixth. It wasn’t one player just having a rough go of it either, as each error was attributed to a different player. Of the five errors, four came on plays that resulted in at least one BYU run.
Ivy Rosenberry got the start in the circle for OSU. Playing with a fractured rib, Rosenberry threw 3 1/3 innings, where she gave up five runs (three earned) off four hits while walking one. Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Lexi Kilfoyl relieved Rosenberry midway through the fourth. Kilfoyl allowed two runs (one earned) and three hits in 3 2/3 innings of work. Kilfoyl recorded five strikeouts.
OSU entered the weekend at No. 8 in the RPI, which has factored heavily into NCAA Tournament seeding. The Cowgirls will be after one of the top-eight seeds in the NCAA Tournament in order to host a potential Super Regional at Cowgirl Stadium. The Cowgirls will now have to wait for Selection Sunday to see where they stand with the committee.
