Humphrey to fill legislation to keep terrorist supporters out of public office
An Oklahoma lawmaker said there is no room for anyone who backs terrorism in public office.
Rep. Justin Humphrey, R-Lane, is filing legislation that would expel office holders known to support terrorist activity from office, he said Monday.
The recent attacks in Israel are particularly concerning, he said.
"I find it inconceivable and astonishing that any elected official would participate and support the baby killing, kidnapping rapists known as Hamas," Humphrey said. "More amazing is that these shameless supporters of Hamas also are champions of LGTBQ+ and other sexual deviant causes that Hamas directly opposes. Are they so unenlightened they do not understand Hamas would execute them for these very beliefs?"
Humphrey did not give specifics on his bill.
Oklahoma Senate Appropriations Committee begins budget hearings Tuesday
The Oklahoma Senate Appropriations Committee will hear from transportation officials Tuesday as part of a new budget process created by Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat.
“For years, I have heard criticisms from my Senate counterparts, and Oklahomans alike, about the overall budget process,” Treat said. “This will allow everyone to see how the budget is discussed and how it is done in the open. My goal with this is to provide more transparency and more accountability for agencies who are funded through taxpayer dollars."
Other agencies will appear before the appropriations committee through the end of January, Treat said. The 2024 legislative session begins Feb. 5.
"These meetings will be public, and Senate members will have input," Treat said. "I hope this brings clarity to the process on the Senate side."
