The lingering question of Elon Musk buying Twitter was about Donald Trump. Trump, while still a sitting president, was given a permaban after January 6, 2021. The biggest concern of the Twitter employees was that Musk would allow Trump back on the platform. We have our answer: you're god-damned right he would!
Musk was speaking at the Future of the Car event where he asked point-blank if he'd reverse the permaban.
“I do think that it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the county and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice."
Musk also called banning the sitting president a “morally bad decision" and "foolish in the extreme.”
Twitter already had a reputation for deciding who to ban or not ban based on if the user shared the progressive worldview of Twitter employees. The concern is that if they could ban a sitting president, they could ban anyone. The bird app has proven that concern over and over again. Just yesterday, Musk called out the company's obviously liberal bias.
Donald Trump has stated he has no intention of returning to Twitter if he was allowed and is sticking with his Truth Social app. Devin Nunes, the CEO of Truth Social, claimed that it was Donald Trump who told Musk to buy Twitter. Musk said that isn't true.
