Good rule of thumb when you're a doctor or scientist who doesn't have all the data available: don't use definitive words like "inevitable" if you're not actually sure something will be inevitable. If you do use unambiguous terms and speak with so much authority, then change your stance a month or so later, be prepared for someone to accuse you of trying to save your reputation after causing considerable damage.
