Dave Chappelle announced an intimate show at landmark Minneapolis venue First Avenue. It's the concert hall made popular by Prince. Also, to a lesser extent, The Replacements. But the band didn't feature the venue in Purple Rain and Chappelle never did a Paul Westerberg impersonation.
Tickets quickly sold out on Monday for the show two days later. It was canceled Wednesday, literally hours before show time. Three guesses why.
"We believe in freedom of expression and diverse voices, but..."
Whenever you state your support for free speech and add the word "but...," I have four words for you and I'll let Chappelle say them.
The Daily Mail points to a "woke group" submitting a petition with a whopping 125 signatures on it. Also, there wwas a radical leftist (aka Democrat Party) militant group threatening to "cover their faces and stay dangerous" to protest Chappelle.
The show was moved to a different venue. Chappelle got new material out of it. His haters look stupid as they always do. Dave will go home to Ohio and swim in his big vault of money like he's Scrooge McDuck. Just, two things:
1. If the venue is run by such pussies, why agree to the concert in the first place? It's not like the "controversy" surrounding Chappelle's alleged trans "phobic" and Emmy award-nominated The Closer special is unknown. It's all over the news. There are complaints on the internet anytime he performs anywhere. The venue knew people were going to whine when they agreed to let Dave perform. First Avenue can take its statement and stick it up its nose.
2. More importantly, HOW THE F*CK DOES A VENUE MADE POPULAR BY PRINCE CANCEL DAVE CHAPPELLE? Prince warned us about the internet. We should have listened.
