The Emmy Awards were announced today. One of Netflix's nominations was for their special The Closer, starring Dave Chappelle. You may know Dave Chappelle as either one of the greatest to ever do it or a problematic transphobe depending on if you have a sense of humor or how much time you spend on Twitter. But all the controversy that Chappelle's name has been attached to this year has been because of the Emmy-nominated The Closer.
Critics call it "transphobic" over Chappelle's jokes that punched up at the corporate media and the powerful LGBTQ+ lobby. Though, most of the critics were from either corporate media or the powerful LGBTQ lobby. I'll be honest. With all the controversy, not a single of the "-phobic" jokes stands out as one I remember. I mostly remember these bars bout the coronavirus that were pure brilliance.
