Liberals lying about legislation is nothing new. Voting for common-sense voter integrity laws doesn't bring us back to Jim Crow. Opposing progressive spending bills doesn't literally kill people. And Florida's "Parental Rights in Education" bill doesn't make it illegal to say the word gay. Jen Psaki still has a job to do, though, and kept lying about the bill on Wednesday. But she wasn't expecting a question about the time Joe Biden voted for the 1994 "Don't Say Gay" Act.
Or, to be more precise, why Biden voted for a bill "some critics might call" the 1994 "Don't Say Gay" Act. The question was posed by the New York Post. Here is the video of their exchange followed by my dramatic interpretation.
REPORTER: So, remember when Joe Biden voted to BAN federal funding to schools that taught kids homosexuality was, quote, "normal?"
PSAKI: Ask Florida about that. They are homophobic homophobes.
REPORTER: Florida didn't vote to ban federal funds. I'm asking you why Joe Biden voted for something Joe Biden voted for.
PSAKI: In the president's defense, he changes his mind all the time when it's politically expedient for him to do so.
REPORTER: So, you're not going to answer my question?
PSAKI: F*ck no.
Florida's Parental Rights in Education Bill (that doesn't say gay) states: "Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards."
The bill that critics might call "Don't Say Gay '94" that Joe Biden voted for--it was actually an amendment by Sen. Jesse Helms whose funeral Biden spoke at--states: "To prohibit Federal funds for instructional materials, instruction, counseling, or other services on school grounds, from being used for the promotion of homosexuality as a positive lifestyle alternative."
One of those sounds "hateful." The other sounds like not teaching five-year-olds about sex. If you read both as blind quotes to Joe Biden, I'd love to hear his answer.
