Marco Rubio is no fan of the Mouse's recent statement. Disney spoke out against the passage of what critics call Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill, and what people who have the ability to read call Florida's "Parental Rights in Education Bill."
When we last left Disney, employees were cyberbullying CEO Bob Chapek for not being angry enough at Ron DeSantis over the bill. They took to the streets and chanted "gay," which is odd because the word doesn't appear in the bill let alone make it illegal for teachers to say it. Chapek learned his lesson, and the company released a statement calling for the bill's repeal. Again, giving no indication anyone in the company read the bill. I mean, it's only seven pages and you've had weeks. Do the barest minimum.
An alleged family company seems very angry about a bill that prevents teachers from talking about sex and gender to five-year-olds. That's Rubio's point. Also, Disney seems LESS angry about concentration camps near where they film movies.
"The @WaltDisneyCo filmed Mulan near #Uighur genocide camps & then thanked the people who run those camps in the credits But they are outraged that Florida schools will not be indoctrinating 5-year olds [sic] on 'gender identity'."
The Blaze reported in 2020 Disney "filmed the movie 'Mulan' in the Xinjiang province of China, where approximately 1 million Uighur Muslims are believed to be held in concentration camps by the communist Chinese government" AND "thanked the Turpan Bureau of Public Security in the movie's credits." SPOILER: Turpan runs the camps, which are branded by the government as "re-education" camps.
Also in 2020, the House of Mouse was blasted by Jewher Ilham, whose father was "disappeared" by the Chinese Communist government as he was about to come to America in 2013. None of this seemed to bother Disney both as a corporation and as a family company that entertains children.
But the company IS upset that, in Florida, teachers can't sexualize five-year-olds. Maybe spend less time on oversaturating Marvel and Star Wars and more time on reevaluating priorities.
