Friends actor Matthew Perry has an autobiography coming out. In an excerpt that has been blowing up the internet, he appeared to have a sad that fellow actor Keanu Reeves wasn't dead yet. In a follow-up statement, Perry says that was a whoopsie. Nothing personal against Keanu.
In the upcoming book "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing," Perry had this to say:
Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?
I'm a child of the 80s who was a film nerd in the 90s, and for the life of me couldn't tell you anything River Phoenix did other than overdose outside of The Viper Room. And while his Joker was okay and 10 Things I Hate About You is underrated, I think the Health Ledger adoration is a bit much.
But to feel bad that they're gone and Keanu Reeves still walks among us? Let's be clear, this is the guy Perry wishes (or wished) dead:
Perry has since clarified that it was all a big misunderstanding. Keanu Reeves was an actor chosen at random. And the book went through every stage of editing without someone saying "really, dude?"
I'm actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead
Because Keanu Reeves is the best among us, I'm sure he accepts your apology. After all, he's John Wick and you're Chandler Bing. If anything, he takes pity on you.
