When I wrote this morning to get ready for the next Rand Paul vs Anthony Fauci smackdown, I didn't realize one was scheduled for today. I just assumed Sen. Paul might have questions about the Project Veritas video. Happy Tuesday to us all! (h/t Newsbusters)
Anthony Fauci knew what was coming and came prepared... to not answer any questions and instead whine that he was being criticized. Not surprising. Fauci thinks he's beyond criticism and any doubting of him means you literally hate the science. Things went something like this:
PAUL: Here is a direct question if you tried to smear and target scientific experts from Yale and Oxford.
FAUCI: You're being very mean to me. You must be jealous of my giant sciencey brain.
Fauci then implied by questioning Fauci, Rand Paul was showing how little he cared about the over 800,000 people who have died of COVID. The same COVID for which Sen. Paul is trying to investigate the origins. Rand was not amused:
"Do you think anyone has had more influence to our response to this than you have? Do you think it's a great success what has happened so far? Do you think lockdowns were good for our kids? Do you think we slowed down the death rate? More people have died now under President Biden than under President Trump. You were the one responsible. You are the lead architect of the response from the government. 800,000 people have died. Do you think it's winning succeeds what you had advocated from the government?"
Fauci didn't have a good answer. Though, he did blame Senator Paul's criticisms for death threats.
It's a congressional hearing. No tangible results ever come from them. Senators who are paying attention have important questions on how we got here. Anthony Fauci knows if he avoids questions, it guarantees him more TV time on cable news. Being in front of the news cameras helps keep Fauci young.
