There's a belief amongst Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) that Democrats own minority voters. It's why the First Lady thought referring to Hispanic voters as delicious food would work out for her and her husband. SPOILER: It did not. People have been telling the GOP it needs to appeal to a broader, more diverse coalition for years. Now that the GOP is getting good at doing so, the left and the media (again, repetition) think there's something nefarious about it. The Hill seized on that today, accusing the GOP of stealing Latinos from Democrats.
Critics were quick to POUNCE. While Democrats have enjoyed owning people in the past, no one "owns" voters these days.
Imagine if Tucker Carlson accused the Democrats of stealing White people? Brian Stelter would have a coronary. As would, if we're being honest, The Hill.
The article itself was about the GOP outreach and wasn't all that terrible. Lots of news outlets have been writing about GOP outreach, and how Democrats are hemorrhaging all voting groups that aren't uppity white liberals. Axios, for instance, went with a less partisan "The great realignment."
It's really a case of lazy, partisan headline writing and social media'ing. The headline on the actual article was changed before noon while the tweet remains. If I were to guess, the person who writes headlines and/or tweets for The Hill is a fresh-out-of-journalism-school zoomer who thinks "Latinx" is a thing and gets their news n' stuff from social media influencers like Rep. AOC. Our legacy media outlets might want to be slightly choosier about who they hire.
