In our continuing coverage of Washington Post reporters' inability to take a joke, we turn our attention to recently demoted tech reporter Taylor Lorenz. Or allegedly recently demoted. She says it is fake news that she was demoted over a recent story that had to be corrected multiple times. But we're not here to talk about that. We're here to talk about reporters, something that rhymed with schmovid (shout out to editor emeritus Courtney), and a sh*tposter who came out of a coma.
Let's begin with Vox founder Matt Yglesias. He contracted schmovid. Instead of sending out a press release about not having symptoms and how happy he is that he got the schmaxine, he cracked jokes. "Frankly, I think the virus should respect Father’s Day more than this. FYI, all future typos are due to long C*v*d."
Along comes the walking embodiment of the Nanette meme Lorenz, to scream NOT FUNNY! "I’m glad it’s a joke for u Matt and that you’re lucky enough to get access to great care, but for those who have had their lives destroyed by the virus and who have had loved ones die from or suffer w/ LC it’s not funny. Hope you can have a little more empathy, especially today."
A dad from the midwest asked if he could joke about it. He got schmovid so hard, he was in a coma for 41 days and almost died four times. The dad defended Yglesias joking, "You have a choice. Crack jokes or let it destroy your mind, so I say start joking and keep it up."
The dad from the midwest makes an important point, as he shares a personal story and photo. An important point that Lorenz completely missed. She shamed him for something called "lateral ableism." I looked it up. It's "when a disabled person is ableist towards another disabled person."
I wish I hadn't looked it up.
"Dear G-d I am a half crippled [sic], fat, balding, internet shitposter, and still more likeable then [sic] you."
Bill Maher over the weekend called the Washington Post newsroom an unlicensed daycare center and its millennial journalismers "emotional hemophiliacs." I don't know if he's being ableist or not. I only know it's a 100% accurate description.
