As Oklahoma finally recovers from the last major recession (2015-17), the money that the legislature has to 'play with' is starting to accrue. And the schemes for doling out that money to lobbyists is as rich as the fancy dinners with which the lobby groups dine our lawmakers. Case in point: Now that the legislature has passed a $600million tax increase on the rest of us, they have the money to give to corporate interests who are considering a commercial venture in the Sooner state. Automotive manufacturers are already trying to carve out exemptions from income tax for themselves and their employees. Not only does this cause our own citizens to have to pay more in taxes to make up for the credits given away, It also makes it tougher for our historic businesses to compete in the labor market. Here's the bill's summary; "SB1585 creates several income tax credits designed to incentivize qualified employers and employees in the vehicle manufacturing industry. The credits are only applicable to vehicle manufacturing companies placed in operation in Oklahoma after the effective date of the act and engineers employed by such firms. |
