In an era where totalitarian governments are toppling, the United States federal government is constructing several threats to the foundational liberty our Revolutionary heroes insisted upon. Our congress did not let a terror crisis go to waste where police powers are concerned. The 'Patriot Act' of October 26, 2001 was a rushed effort by Jim Sensenbrenner, on behalf of the GW Bush administration. The nation had just sustained it's worst terror attack ever, on September 11th. Sensenbrenner's bill robbed private citizens and commerce of many foundational and constitutional protections. It was called; "the Patriot Act" so that anyone who voted against it would be implying that he's not patriotic. If patriotism means 'loyalty to the government', why do our history books distinguish the revolutionary patriots of the revolution from the loyalists to the crown? |
Seven judges are seeking another term on our statewide oversight courts. A couple of them are worth keeping. Far more are needing to go. Perhaps the finest judge is retiring.
Steven Taylor has shown a strong and independent library of case opinions. He has sometimes dissented alone. Even then he has boldly declared his clear intellect and respect for the state's constitutional language. The editorial review being published here, is a work subject to further consideration. Comments are especially welcome. But we have gathered enough data to begin the discussion and tip our hand as to which judges we do and do not support for a whole new term. Oklahoma Supreme Court: As we mentioned above, Steven Taylor is retiring and we call upon the appointed committees to find a set of candidates worthy to sit in his seat. We did not use the Ten Commandments ruling in this review. It is our opinion that the constitution is clearly flawed in the so-called "Blaine Amendment" section. The justices were duty-bound to maintain a strict-constructionist ruling on this case. The correct remedy is to change the constitution (which we are doing with state question 790). A failure to pass this reform could result in the Oklahoma National Guard to go without chaplain care during deployment in war. For Retention: None
Last Spring, the governor vetoed a bill which would have mandated a full disclosure of these drugs. She argued that if consumers were aware of the contents, they would be less willing to have them pumped into their bodies. That's especially true with babies and toddlers, whose bodies are far more vulnerable to toxicity and allergic reactions. Last Winter the capitol sustained a strong march of young mothers who successfully killed Yen's legislative assaults. Now Yen is armed with a pediatric lobby who have given campaign contributions to several of his legislative colleagues. The doping forces were caught by surprise when these mom's asserted their maternal rights. This next session will be a 'battle of raw political force'. Lobby money and influence will clash with grassroots. Yen is attempting to chip away at personal rights by claiming he is going to respect a religious exemption (from a preset list of approved religions) and a medical exemption (from a preset list of approved doctors). The right to own your own body is what's initially under assault.
This weekend Brett Farley made national news by resigning from the OKGOP leadership team over his rejection of Donald Trump as the standard bearer. Today he unveiled his plan for overhauling how the party selects it's nominees. It's far to say Farley is not a Tea Party darling or Liberty Caucus orchestrator. His solutions seem more like a return to the smoke-filled rooms where enlightened party fathers conduct litmus tests and pump white smoke up the chimney when they have a nominee. The effort is called "The 1966 Project". Those who worked had for the Barry Goldwater campaign of 1964 will not see this title as a welcome sign. The Rockefeller Republicans of 1966 worked hard to rid the party leadership of any allies of Goldwater. Among Nelson Rockefeller's allies were US Senator Prescott Bush and Michigan Governor George Romney. Their great concern was that Ronald Reagan may try to build on the Goldwater movement.Their offspring are treating the Trump insurgeancy in much the same way Rockefeller treated Goldwater.
