"It is a strange feeling to not be on the ballot today, first time in 12 years. It comes with a host of mixed emotions. Some relief that I was not up late putting signs near precincts across the district or spending all day at busy intersections waving at cars. There is also a deep sadness because of the tenor of how many campaigns are being run. It is no longer about ideas, principles or deeply held convictions. Too often they are vicious attacks, slander, and lies in desperate attempts to build oneself up by destroying another person. In politics candidates will say anything and make claims about themselves that just are not true. How many times have we seen 'successful businessman', 'man of faith', 'one of us', or a host of other catch phrases that we know are not true? It is surprising how many people claim to be a farmer, rancher or dairyman who has never walked through the manure, milked a cow or had to use chains to pull a calf when the cow was having an issue? Unfortunately in politics there does not have to be 'truth in advertising'. This election cycle has been especially vicious with elected officials inserting themselves in areas they don’t represent to weed out what they consider as conservatives who are a 'cancer' to their liberal agendas. It is no longer enough to let each district decide who should represent them but to control who sits and votes on the legislative floor. It is no surprise that we will all breathe a sigh of relief after today is over no matter who gets elected. | "I will walk away knowing that I stayed true to my words and principles" |
In politics candidates will say anything and make claims about themselves that just are not true. | I will walk away knowing that I stayed true to my words and principles knowing I have made hundreds of friends and hopefully a difference in this great State we all call home. Life is filled with great opportunities and we serve a great and mighty God who not only directs our path but walks beside us through life with the goal of drawing us into closer fellowship with His Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ. There is life after politics and we look forward to what lies ahead." - George Faught |
