House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is feeling pretty good about Democrats’ chances to hold onto their majority in the House of Representatives in the upcoming midterm elections.
“I’m very confident that we will win the House,” Pelosi said Friday during her weekly Capitol news conference. But even the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) isn’t so sure. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney says a course-correction is needed.
“During a closed-door lunch last week with some of his most vulnerable incumbents, House Democrats’ campaign chief delivered a blunt warning: If the midterms were held now, they would lose the majority.” Politico reported.
Historically, the party in control of the White House loses congressional seats during the first midterm election. But Pelosi may be feeling over-confident from the jobs report – U.S. employers added more than 900,000 jobs in July.
Pelosi said the “big number” is “decisive proof that the Biden administration and the Democrats’ Build Back Better economy is working,” Fox News reports.
Time will tell.
