The national average price for a gallon of gasoline reached $5 Wednesday afternoon, a 130% increase since Joe Biden’s first day in office.
Prices topped $6.40 in California, $5.48 in Oregon, $5.89 in Washington State, and $5.21 in Michigan.
The cheapest fuel can be found in Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Georgia.
“Given the global nature of these markets, it’s virtually impossible for us to insulate ourselves from shocks like the ones that are occurring in Russia that move global oil prices,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday.
