“I agree that Utah is a very good program,” Young said. “That’ll be a big challenge, but it seems like we’ve had this feeling for a while that OSU might be able to have the opportunity to assert themselves as the new kings of the Big 12 in a lot of sports, with OU and Texas leaving.

Non-OSU Bullets• Should you park under an overpass during a tornado? • What happens when you stop getting bored Solid explanation on what the settlement around college athlete pay was about this week TLDR: revenue sharing could start as early as next year, backpay settled to 2016. Federal judge is looking at it now. College Athlete Pay Settlement The National Collegiate Athletic Association and five power conferences—collectively representing more than 60 schools—agreed yesterday to a $2.8B class-action settlement, paving the way for universities to directly pay college athletes for the first time. If finalized, the plan would go into effect as soon as next year and reverse the amateur college sports model in place since 1906. Yesterday’s proposed settlement is a revenue-sharing model in which schools would pay athletes a cut of the money received from sponsorships, broadcasting rights, and ticket sales. Division I schools would have the ability to distribute up to $20M per year to their athletes. The settlement would also resolve claims of missed back-pay for current and former college athletes dating back to 2016, ending three antitrust cases, with a fourth case—Fontenot v. NCAA—still pending. The agreement now heads to a federal judge for approval, a process that could take months. [1440] ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog.

![]() Oklahoma State’s football program is more valuable than the programs at Texas, Florida and USC … at least in this one particular metric. With EA Sports brings back its college football game this summer, schools are set to make some money from their branding, facilities, etc. being in the game, and OSU is considered a Tier-1 school by the game, according to cllct. Schools were reportedly divvied into four tiers in terms of earning, with Tier 1 schools earning $99,875.16 in “revenue distribution (based on the minimum guaranteed royalties)” and Tier 4 schools earning $9,987.52. OSU is one of 13 schools in Tier 1, per cllct, joining Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Utah and Iowa. The tiers are based on AP Poll finishes across the past 10 seasons, meaning OSU is finally getting credit somewhere for being a consistently good program under Mike Gundy. When a team finished in the Top 25 of the AP Poll in a given year, it received one point. To get into Tier 1, a team needed six points — the number the Cowboys had — tying with Oregon, Penn State, Utah and Iowa. Teams with two to five points are in Tier 2, while teams with one point are in Tier 3 and teams with no points are in Tier 4. Some schools in Tier 2 include USC, Florida State, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Miami, UCLA and Texas A&M. Among Big 12 schools, here is how the teams are divided: Tier 1 ($99,875.16): Oklahoma State, Utah It’s a fascinating way to do things — one that surpasses the “eye test” or a simple helmet logo. For the full list of where schools were, check out cllct’s full breakdown. OSU Baseball: Cowboys Fall in Extra Innings to UCF 7-6 Face Quick Turn Around in Big 12 Tourney5/24/2024 ![]() A late start and an extra inning made for a late finish. Now the Cowboys could face an early exit from Arlington. No. 2 seed Oklahoma State fell to the 8 seed UCF 7-6 in 10 innings late Thursday night/early Friday morning. The Cowboys tied it after midnight, but the Knights had one more run in them. Thanks to the previous game between Cincinnati and Texas Tech going long, OSU and UCF got started almost two hours late, but both teams were ready to go. Oklahoma State got on the board early with a burst of runs, scoring four in the bottom of the first with Carson Benge (2-4), Aidan Meola (1-5), Colin Brueggemann by fly-out (0-4) and Lane Forsythe by bunt (0-2) all sending batters home. But the Knights answered back with four runs of their own in the top of the second leaving it tied at 4-4.
In the eighth, Tyler Wulfert (1-4) smacked one off the left field wall that sent Forsythe home and brought the Pokes back within 6-6 and facilitated the extra inning it would take to end it. UCF’s AJ Nessler’s single RBI made it 7-6 in the top of the 10th and Dominic Castellano earned the win for the Knights striking out three in two innings. The final two Cowboys he faced went down swinging. The Cowboys struggled from the mound, turning in a team 5.99 ERA and employing four different arms. Brennan Phillips got the start and pitched one cleaning inning before giving up three of those runs in the top of the second. Evan O’Toole came on for three innings, striking out one and allowing that fourth score. Ryan Bogusz had his turn at the mound striking out a pair of Knights but allowing a pair of runs and Gabe Davis took the L, pitching three 1/3 innings, allowing a run and logging three Ks. The Cowboys weren’t without their plays on defense, but Knights, ultimately, had their number.
With the loss the 2 seed Cowboys fall to 37-17 on the season. They will face a short turnaround in hopes of another long night. OSU will rematch with 10 seed Texas Tech, scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday. The winner will face UCF at 7:30 p.m. Friday for a shot at the Big 12 Championship game on Saturday.
