![]() ![]() STILLWATER – Oklahoma State has partnered with industry leader Paciolan to improve the fan experience and serve as the official ticketing, fundraising and marketing system provider of OSU Athletics. Important information for POSSE members and ticket holders is at the bottom of this release. ![]() Oklahoma State made it to the final eight for three-star defensive lineman Trey Wilson, who on Monday announced he has trimmed his list down from 32 and included the Pokes — along with Utah, Miami, Baylor, Stanford, Nebraska, Washington and USC — in his short list of finalists. Wilson is a 6-foot-3, 230-pound edge rusher from Lakeview Centennial in Garland, Texas. OSU has long thought to be a legitimate contender despite nearly three dozen offers in part because it was his first offer back in January 2021. Wilson, for his part, has reciprocated interest with several trips to Stillwater since the offer.
Mike Gundy and his staff have had a really nice run on the recruiting trail of late by landing commitments from three-star WR Camron Heard and three-star cornerback Dylan Smith in the last two weeks. Their commitments have vaulted the Pokes into the top 25 of the national rankings. As far as space, there’s plenty for Wilson in the 2023 class even as it grows. Only two of the nine commitments are slated to play defensive line (another is projected to play edge), and there’s still enough room that they have continued to make Wilson a priority as he wades through his recruitment. A commitment from him would give the Pokes’ already-solid defensive line class a major boost, and he’d arguably (given his offer sheet) be the most highly touted recruit in the class. OSU Bullets• This article lists Boone Pickens Stadium as one of the more underrated football stadiums in college football • Missed this fun piece from late last week – looking at who the next commitments for Cowboy Football could be • This sounds completely ideal – alumni giving funds for athletes to receive compensation for advertising for non-profits. Team USA defeated Brazil 102-60, allowing them for the sixth consecutive time at the event to take home gold medal honors. Colorado coach Tad Boyle served as head coach for a staff that included several stars, ranging from Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd and Boise State head coach Leon Rice. (Lloyd, Rob Lanier and Matt Langel all served as court coaches; only Boynton, Rice and Boyle were coaches on the bench.) For OSU and for Boynton, it was a great opportunity not just to expand the coaching acumen but also to rub elbows with some of the top prospects in the world. One name in particular pops if you’re a Pokes fan, and that’s Brandon Garrison, an elite big man from Del City, Oklahoma, who made the final roster.
Garrison came off the bench for Team USA but was able to provide a real spark on both ends of the floor as they marched to the gold medal. He averaged 6.0 points per game according to FIBA data but shot 81% (!!) from the field, easily the most efficient scorer of the event. Being in close proximity to Boynton, who was coaching him, certainly can’t hurt OSU’s chances. OSU is in the mix to land Garrison but in a battle with several big-brand programs including Kansas, OU, Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M and others. Oklahoma State on Sunday made the Top 8 for 2022 Idaho athlete Kenyon Sadiq. The Cowboys extended on offer to Sadiq just three weeks ago but have apparently already made an impression. His top list also includes Michigan, Oregon, Washington, Washington State, West Virginia, Iowa State and Colorado.
Sadiq helped lead Skyline High School to an Idaho state championship last season, playing both wide receiver and defensive back. But it looks like the Cowboys are after him for his pass-catching ability. At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, he’s got the size and frame (and ball skills) to be a lethal red zone weapon and feast on the outside. He’s a three-sport standout that also turns heads in hoops and track & field. 247Sports considers him a four-star prospect, the No. 233 player nationally, the No. 18 athlete and the top-rated prospect out of Idaho. The other recruiting services have yet to catch on as his composite score is still lagging as the No. 635 player nationally. The Cowboys currently have nine commitments for their 2023 class including fast-rising wide receiver Camron Heard. But while heard is speedy 5-11 playmaker, OSU could use the big-bodied Sadiq on the outside. If he were to commit as of writing, he would boost OSU’s current No. 19 team recruiting ranking to 16th nationally. Check out his junior season highlights. But in no way, shape or form is the man too busy to recruit. On Sunday afternoon, three-star 2023 combo guard Jamyron Keller announced an OSU offer, via his Twitter account. “Truly blessed to say that after great conversations with Coach Rencher and Coach Boynton that I have received an offer from Oklahoma State University.” Who is he?Keller is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound combo guard hailing from Ellison High School in Killeen, Texas. He’s a strong two-way player that can facilitate and score on all three levels. He’s a self-described Swiss Army knife in a point guard’s body.
Keller also plays for Nike EYBL team Drive Nation with a pair of elite teammates who also hold OSU offers, 2023 five-star forward Ron Holland and 2024 five-star forward Liam McNeeley. In the RankingsKeller is a three-star prospect and the No. 25 combo guard in the 2023 class according to 247Sports’ Composite ranking. He’s a top 200 recruit and the 15th-ranked player out of Texas. He’s yet to receive a star rating by Rivals but ESPN is high on him with a Scout grade of 81, tabbing Keller as a four-star prospect, the No. 25 point guard, and the 12th-highest rated Texas prospect. Others InvolvedKeller’s first three offers all came on the same day, August 31 of 2020, from Wyoming, SMU and Sam Houston State. But that offer sheet has steadily grown in number and over the last couple of years with the likes of Wichita State, ORU, Saint Louis and then Kansas State in late May. OSU became lucky No. 13. Worthen just graduated high school and will be a part of the 2022 recruiting class. He finished fifth at the Iowa state tournament this year and last season wrestling this year at 152. Rudolph-to-Washington. Flores-to-Heard? One of those things does look like the other, if you put any stock in the latest recruiting rankings. Class of 2023 Oklahoma State commits quarterback Zane Flores and wide receiver Camron Heard have both popped up on the radar in a big way thanks to 247Sports’ latest ranking update, and it’s pushed the Cowboys into the Top 25 of team rankings. Heard Appears on Radar after OSU PledgeHeard picked an OSU offer at “The Show” camp in Stillwater on Sunday and then committed to the Pokes on Thursday. The dual-threat high school quarterback was without a star ranking at the time the Cowboys offered him to play wide receiver. Now, he’s been tabbed a three-star prospect, the No. 67 wideout in the class and the No. 90 player to come out of Texas. His 0.8759 Composite ranking lands him as the Cowboys’ No. 2 commit for 2023. While Heard picked the Pokes over offers from the likes of Arkansas, Texas Tech and Tulsa, the Cowboys will be glad they made a move on him early. Last season, Heard threw for over 700 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for over 1,000 for 11 scores. His QB brain should help him that much more as he transitions to receiver at the next level. Flores’ Star Continues to RiseWhen Flores committed to the Cowboys in mid-April, he was the No. 776 prospect in the class according to 247 and the No. 29 quarterback. He’s since earned an invite to the Elite 11 Finals and has also shot up the rankings. As of writing, Flores is the No. 24 QB and the No. 2 prospect in Nebraska. His 0.8823 Composite ranking makes him the Cowboys’ top commit for an increasingly stout-looking 2023 class. What it Means for OSUAs things currently sit, OSU is ranked 18th in the 247Sports team rankings. It’s still very early in the cycle, but that finish would tie with the highest Cowboys class since 247 started tracking such things. Mike Gundy has made his living in the 30s and 40s most years, while fielding teams in the running for — and sometimes playing for — a Big 12 title. The last time OSU finished in the Top 25 was in 2011, at 25. OSU’s top mark under Gundy was also 18, all the way back in 2006. The future looks bright. It’s important to note that those other top classes for Gundy were buoyed by one or two high-end prospects while the Cowboys have yet to land a single four-star pledge for 2023. That could change, even among those currently in the class. Of course, my comp at the top to other great Cowboy passer-catcher duos was hyperbole. But if you put any stock in recruiting rankings it might not be as much as crazy as you think. Heard’s new Composite score already trumps both Blackmon and Washington’s final ranking coming out of high school and Flores is just a few points below Mason Rudolph’s 0.9004, with still time to impress evaluators in this month’s Elite 11 Finals. Weeden was unicorn with no stars. Regardless of where any involved land in the final rankings, these rankings are just further evidence of Gundy and his staff’s keen eye for football talent, and the reputation its earned.
