![]() The Daily Bullets are brought to you by Hoboken Coffee: Get 20% off your first order. OSU Bullets• Pokes have worse odds to win the Big 12 title than Texas, TCU, and Iowa State… That’s something. Also, does anybody else think of Kevin on The Office when they see those Kansas odds?
• This Braylin Pressley profile is great – went 90+ yards on back-to-back plays in grade school! • Malcolm Rodriguez on his head coach Mike Gundy was LOL-worthy:
• The top-ten sports traditions at Oklahoma State • Contenders for five-star baller Keyonte George • “Crazy Days” starts tomorrow in Stillwater – or “back-to-school shopping” as those of us growing up around Payne County called it. Getting close! • Here’s an offensive storyline – can LD Brown make the transition from change-of-pace to feature back? My guess – he ends up being the second back behind Jaylen Warren or Dez Jackson (and a really good one at that).
Non-OSU Bullets• A plan for wrong Liked this (faith-based) parenting advice from Tim Keller:

Sanders, entering his third year as Oklahoma State’s starting quarterback, fielded a handful of NIL questions at Big 12 Media Days last week. To this point, Sanders hasn’t unveiled some extravagant logo, appeared as the new face of Eskimo Joes or had a pizza at Hideaway named after him. “I don’t know too much about it, so I’m just trying to be cautious at this point,” Sanders said. “I don’t want to take any random suspension that could really tax me. I’ve just kinda been taking it easy — figuring out the loopholes and figuring out what other people are doing and seeing what I can do.” Sanders spoke a few times about still playing for “the love of the game.” He said he didn’t have issues with student-athletes making money on the side, but it wasn’t something he was going to dive straight into. Mike Gundy might know more than anyone what the potential market for OSU’s quarterback could be after being one himself and coaching many QB1s since 2005. After Gundy’s senior season in 1989, he was the program’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns. Gundy joked at Big 12 Media Days that there probably wouldn’t have been much of a market for a “5-11.75, 185-pound quarterback.” “Wouldn’t have been much,” Gundy said. “Probably a car deal down there at Hudiburg Chevrolet in Midwest City. Probably would have got $25 and a pack of Topps trading cards.” In a town like Stillwater where OSU football is the biggest show in town, there likely would have been a market for Gundy — just like there would have been markets from Zac Robinson, Brandon Weeden and Mason Rudolph. Sanders is the first to be able to take advantage of such a proposition, but, for now, he is going at his own pace. “I’m still here for the love of the game, but don’t get me wrong, if you can make profits on the side, then that’s fine,” he said. “I don’t want to lose sight of why I’m here.” The post Spencer Sanders Taking Measured Approach to NIL Era appeared first on Pistols Firing. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() Five-star recruit Keyonte George’s stock is soaring with Southern Assault on the AAU circuit. A top-five prospect in the 2022 class, he is creating off the dribble, scoring at will and has the athletic profile to develop into a first-round talent. To state the obvious: George’s services are in high demand. Because of this, it is no surprise that all five of his finalists are pushing hard for him to be the focal point of a star-studded recruiting class, and between OSU, Texas, Kentucky, Kansas and Baylor, he has no shortage of great options. Although he has yet to give a full decision timeline, Texas is emerging as a potential favorite to land him. Still, all five still appear to be in the mix. So here’s his potential fits for each at the next level. 1. TexasWith Chris Beard at the helm of Texas we can expect a new system in Austin, and it is one that has been very heavily guard-friendly in recent years with Zhaire Smith, Jarrett Culver and Terrence Shannon developing into past (and in the case of Shannon) future first-round talents. With George potentially headlining the 2022 class and arriving as a one-and-done caliber guard, I’d imagine regardless of the roster construction in 2022 — which is at least some question after a transfer-heavy 2021 roster constructed by Beard — he would get the ball in his hands and be asked to create a lot, even with four-star point guard Arterio Morris in the fold for 2022. 2. Oklahoma StateWe already know OSU and Mike Boynton can win at a high level with a high-level guard with NBA talent (see: Cunningham, Cade). Now, George’s game is a bit different — he wouldn’t be as ball-dominant, and I suspect he wouldn’t be asked to create as much — but he could be a lethal 2/3-guard in OSU’s system. I see an Isaac Likekele-type role, but him being a more natural scorer could make him the focal point of an offense. 3. KansasKansas under Bill Self has — sometimes to its detriment — stuck to its guns as a two-big system. And yet its guards have been consistently dominant, from Devon Dotson, Devonte’ Graham, Frank Mason on … See a theme here, though? The fit is questionable. Scoring guards typically slide into secondary roles in Lawrence — Wayne Selden, Ben McLemore, Lagerald Vick — while point guards’ profiles are most-often elevated. So unless he’s in a role as an initiator, I wouldn’t be surprised to see George reject a fit here. As Bryce Thompson saw last season at KU, it’s tough for young guards to find roles under Self regardless of talent and recruiting profile, and even more challenging to do so if you’re not a primary initiator. 4. KentuckyThis is probably one of the more intriguing teams on this list in terms of fit. Kentucky carries major sway among one-and-done hopeful guards because it has put in the league players like Tyrese Maxey, Tyler Herro, John Wall, De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk …. the list is endless. And in 2022 Kentucky has a five-star committed at point guard already in Skyy Clark, whose presence would theoretically make George’s role and transition into a scoring guard in college more natural. 5. BaylorFit and scheme wise, Baylor might be No. 1 on this list. Scott Drew runs a system that is inviting for scoring guards. The last two seasons Baylor has had an elite offense with Jared Butler, MaCio Teague and Davion Mitchell running the show, with Butler and Mitchell both hitting above 40% from 3 in its title-winning campaign in 2020-21. Baylor already has a commitment at shooting guard in 2022 with four-star Dillon Hunter, though, and its incoming class is predicated on scorers who may be high-volume college guards that may push George elsewhere. Updated odds from SuperBook Sports give OSU the fifth-best odds of winning the league in 2021, and the separation between the fourth and fifth-best is substantial, with TCU at 14-1 and OSU all the way at 25-1. Only West Virginia, Baylor, Kansas State, Texas Tech and Kansas have worse odds.
This means if you bet $100 on OSU to win the Big 12 title and they do indeed win, the payout is $2,500. If you bet $100 on Texas, the payout is $1,000. And if you bet $100 on Kansas, then you just wasted $100. OU, meanwhile, is the odds-on favorite at 4/5, meaning to bet $100 you would win less than your original investment ($80, in this case). I could make a case for several teams here — and the value lies outside of the overwhelming favorite, no doubt — but OU winning six straight conference championships and having a Heisman frontrunner running the show feels like it’d render all my cases moot. Oklahoma State’s Kolby Harvell-Peel and Malcolm Rodriguez were listed in the Chuck Bednarik Award preseason watch list Monday morning. The Bednarik is given to the national defensive player of the year. Meanwhile, the Cowboys didn’t have a player on the Maxwell watch list, an award given to the national offensive player of the year. The Bednarik watch list had 90 players on it, and the Maxwell watch list included 80 players. A safety, Harvell-Peel was an All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2019 and made the All-Big 12 Second Team in 2020. He has been an impact player for the Pokes since coming to Stillwater in 2018. In 35 career games, Harvell-Peel has made 167 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. He also has seven interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. A linebacker, Rodriguez has also been heavily involved in OSU’s defense since his freshman season in 2017. He started his career at safety before transitioning to a linebacker. He is even more of a traditional linebacker entering 2021, as he said at Big 12 media days that he is up to about 235 pounds. He was listed at 205 his freshman season. In 42 career games, Rodriguez has made 279 total tackles (encroaching on the Top 5 in program history), including 16 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also has an interception, two fumble recoveries and nine forced fumbles. Rodriguez was asked about being on watch lists and Big 12 Media Days, and it didn’t seem like something that consumed him. “It’s all just watch list things — you go out there and keep playing, keep performing and keep competing,” Rodriguez said. Harvell-Peel and Rodriguez were two of 12 Big 12 representatives on the Bednarik watch list.
The Bednarik has been awarded annually since 1995. Oklahoma State has never had a Bednarik winner. Tulsa’s Zaven Collins won the award last season. Despite no Poke being on the list, the Big 12 did have 11 representatives on the Maxwell’s watch list.

Eberlein Drive throttled the Stars 119-67 on Sunday night in TBT’s second round. There was no grandiose comeback to be had like the Stars pulled off Saturday night. From whistle to whistle, it was all Eberlein Drive. Eberlein Drive went into the half with a 71-35 lead after shooting 80%, yes 80%, from the field. That stat included Eberlein Drive going 10-for-13 from 3-point range. Eberlein Drive finished 18-for-26 from 3 (impressive even in an empty gym) and also converted 18 dunks. Jeffrey Carroll and Markel Brown were the only former Cowboys in double figures, putting up 11 points a piece. Former Arkansas big man Michael Qualls led the Stars with 20 points. It was far from a storybook ending, but this concludes the Stillwater Stars’ second year in action. The Stars fell in the first round of last year’s COVID-altered tournament. This year’s tournament saw the Stars get their first win in what might end up being the best game of the tournament. The Stars announced via Twitter they would be back. Luke Hasz, a 2023 tight end from Bixby, announced his Top 8 on Sunday: Oklahoma State, Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, TCU and Arkansas.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, Hasz is the No. 40 player in all of the 2023 class, making him the top prospect in Oklahoma. As a sophomore for the state champion Spartans in 2020, Hasz caught 32 passes for 703 yards and nine touchdowns. Hasz is familiar with the Oklahoma State campus, visiting for the Cowboys’ passing camp in early June before taking an unofficial visit later in the month. For what it’s worth, OSU was also Hasz’s first offer, coming back in December. The Cowboys’ staff has done an exceptional job at recruiting in state lately with Talyn Shettron, Tabry Shettron, CJ Brown, Braylin Presley, Mason Gilkey, Jaleel Johnson and Gabe Brown all committed in the 2022 class. OSU also has a solid pipeline laid out to Bixby, as Brennan Presley, Brendon Evers, Jordan Reagan and Clayton Barbour all on OSU’s roster heading into the 2021 season.
