![]() Saturday could be a big day for the Cowboys in Boone Pickens Stadium and on the recruiting front. Class of 2021 four-star running back Cam’Ron Valdez is set to announce his college decision at 2 p.m., and now Edmond-Santa Fe four-star 2022 wide receiver Talyn Shettron has announced he will also pick a program Saturday. Shettron is the No. 54 player in the 2022 class and the No. 9 receiver in the cycle.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, Shettron boasts offers from Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Texas, Notre Dame, Auburn, Arkansas, Miami, Texas A&M and others. Shettron has been on OSU’s campus a handful of times, and OSU has a nice pipeline in place between Stillwater and Edmond-Santa Fe. It’s the high school where defensive stars Calvin Bundage and Trace Ford hail from. Collin Oliver is also committed to OSU from the high school. With that said, things aren’t trending in OSU’s direction with this particular Wolf. Shettron has picked up myriad OU predictions since his announcement. Shettron would be the second-highest WR commit in OSU history, behind only Dez Bryant. Valdez announced via his Twitter that he will choose a program at 2 p.m. Saturday. In July, Valdez included OSU in his final seven schools alongside Texas Tech, Nebraska, Purdue, Arizona State, Arkansas and Utah.
Valdez is the No. 349 player in the 2021 class, according to the composite ranking. That would make him the third-highest rated commit of OSU’s class, if he picked the Pokes. Rivals is high on Valdez, as the recruiting service lists him as a four-star recruit and the No. 223 player in the class. As a sophomore and junior at Rockdale High School (Texas), Valdez ran for a combined 2,872 yards and 43 touchdowns. OSU offered Valdez Nov. 13. He was able to get on campus before the shutdown, visiting Stillwater in January. Tech looks to be the favorite for now, with analysts on 247Sporst and Rivals predicting him to Lubbock. Valdez would be the second running back in OSU’s class, following Frisco-Lone Star speedster Jaden Nixon. OSU Bullets• I agree with this take on OSU’s greatest asset: stability.
To this point in the season, you can’t draw it up any better going into WEEK 8 of college football. • OSU v. Iowa State has been a salty series for it being so lopsided (Pokes are 9-2 over the last 11) • It’s easy to remember the Tylan-stiff arm from the Iowa State game last year but the defense’s major turn was the story. To the untrained eye, man, it was shocking how much better they were just a week later:
• I always appreciate (intelligent) outsider perspective on the Pokes. This was a solid bit to chew on about the Cowboy schedule so far plus a pretty good betting tip – take the over.
• Two big-time, four-star Cowboy targets are deciding on their college choice very soon (receiver from Edmond and running back from Texas) • Mike Boynton made The Athletic‘s 40 under 40 ($) this year • The normal view is “Woe to the Big 12… They all stink.” I like this counter-take that the Big 12 is wide open and it’s a blast. • Pretty cool image here with the NFL Pokes:

That could draw even depending on how Saturday goes with the Cyclones having already beaten OU this season. Campbell is considered a promising up-and-coming coach within the Big 12. Here are three things he said in the week leading up to his game against the Cowboys. 1. On Prepping for Two QBsWith Spencer Sanders expected to be ready to go against the Cyclones, OSU coach Mike Gundy said there is a possibility Sanders and true freshman Shane Illingworth see action. That could’ve been a smokescreen from Gundy, a 16-year veteran, as a ploy to get Iowa State’s staff to spend more time preparing for two potentially different quarterbacks. Campbell said he didn’t think it changed much as to which Cowboy QB was in the game. “I think for them, it certainly sounds like they’re as healthy as they’ve been to start the season,” Campbell on Monday’s Big 12 teleconference. “I think both quarterbacks have shown to be really efficient in their offense. Obviously, Spencer Sanders is an elite talent and somebody that has been in their system now for a year and a half. I really think that young man that came in, the freshmen, that came in the platform already has done a great job. [Illingworth has] a big arm, has got the ability to make all the throws and distributed to all their playmakers. “So I don’t know if it really changes who they are offensively, and I think both quarterbacks have already proven to be really efficient and really effective in their offense.” 2. Multiple RushersRedshirt senior running back LD Brown has received a ton of praise for his play early in OSU’s 2020 season. Through three games, Brown is already just 20 yards away from his season career high in a season. His performance and possibility of Sanders returning provide a scary opposition for the Cyclones. “That’s the thing about really good teams that run the ball: there’s more than just one great ball carrier,” Campbell said Tuesday. “They’re fortunate that they’ve got two young men that are exceptional right now at running the football. One of those, being a senior, who is playing the best football of his career and playing really special. Then, obviously, Chuba Hubbard who we know is an elite player and elite talent. Then you throw in a quarterback who’s got elite running ability. That’s a challenge for any defense.” 3. Campbell High on Mike GundyEarly in his fifth season with the program, Campbell’s Cyclones are 29-26 since he took over in 2016. That 53 percent winning percentage might not seem incredibly impressive, but considering Iowa State was 20-42 (32 percent) in the five years before Campbell, it’s nothing to sneeze at. Campbell building Iowa State seems similar in ways to the early stages Mike Gundy’s tenure in Stillwater. Campbell said he has great admiration for OSU’s coach. “On my end, there’s a lot of respect for him and what he’s been able to build,” Campbell said Tuesday. “I’ve always been impressed with how his teams have played and competed, and probably more than anything just the respect factor.” The post What Matt Campbell Said Ahead of OSU-ISU This Weekend appeared first on Pistols Firing. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() After a two-week mini vacation, Oklahoma State is, finally, back in action on Saturday with a massive top-25 showdown between No. 6 OSU and No. 17 Iowa State. It’s OSU’s fourth game in Week 8 (!) of the college football season. Here are 10 stats to know courtesy of OSU ahead of Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. kick on FOX. 1. OSU has won a whopping 71 consecutive games when it holds its opponent to fewer than 20 points, a streak that dates to Sept. 13, 2003. It’s the longest active stretch of time in the FBS. 2. In games decided by fewer than 10 points, Oklahoma State is 22-8 over its past 30 games. 3. OSU is 32-19-3 in the all-time series against Iowa State, including wins over the Cyclones in nine of the last 11 meetings. OSU has won five of the last six games against ISU played in Stillwater and holds a 17-7-2 edge when the game is played on OSU’s turf. 4. By Saturday, OSU will have gone 23 days between games — the first time OSU has had consecutive open weeks between regular season games since 1918, when Oklahoma A&M had three-straight open weekends after its opener due to an outbreak of influenza in the 1918 flu pandemic. 5. Oklahoma State (3-0) is the only undefeated team in the Big 12. 6. OSU’s defense has allowed a combined 27 points through its first three games, the fewest in a three-game stretch since 2006 when it allowed a combined 25 points to Missouri State, Arkansas State and Florida Atlantic. 7. THIS.
8. OSU’s defense has held opposing offenses to a combined 7-for-43 on third down attempts, making its .163 conversion rate the best in the country. OSU also ranks in the top 10 statistically in sacks, total defense, 4th-down defense, pass-efficiency defense, tackles for loss, first-down defense and rushing defense. 9. Since 2008, OSU is 62-7 when it wins the turnover battle. Since 2005, OSU is 39-3 when it does not commit a single turnover. 10. OSU has had a 100-yard rusher in 31 of its last 43 games. Chuba Hubbard has accounted for 17 100-yard games in his last 20 outings. The Cowboys are just 3.5-point favorites, according to the latest odds, the closest projected game of the season for them entering a game. (OSU was a touchdown favorite vs. West Virginia; we need not mention the spread on the KU game.) Like OSU, Iowa State is also coming off a bye week, but its also on a nice little run having beat TCU, OU and Texas Tech over the last month. The Cyclones are 3-1 overall and have rebounded nicely after a stunning home loss to Louisiana to open the season. Here’s a look at the updated odds, courtesy of William Hill.
Three games into the season, it’s far too early to draw conclusions on this OSU team — especially after facing Tulsa, West Virginia and Kansas. But on the season, OSU is 2-1-0 against the spread and has yet to be an underdog all season. Two of the three games have hit the under — except the Kansas game, of course — underscoring just how heavily OSU is relying upon its defense.
