![]() ![]() Complete Notes Available Here ![]() After holding an open practice in Oklahoma City over the weekend, the Cowboy basketball team is doing the same for its Tulsa fanbase with an open practice set for this coming Saturday at Tulsa Memorial High School, the program announced on Monday. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. and practice will start at 4:00 p.m. The T-Town stop is one of three open practices the team plans to hold this offseason, with the final destination set for Stillwater and the Colvin Center. No date or time for that one is set yet. There were a few hundred folks in attendance at the OKC practice on Sunday, and with Tulsa being a hub for OSU fans it’s likely to be pretty crowded there, too. It should be a really good way to generate some buzz ahead of the season while also giving fans a close look at a team set to turn over a lot of its roster but also remain competitive thanks to the additions of transfers Bryce Thompson, Moussa Cisse and others. “These people care so much about our program,” OSU coach Mike Boynton said Sunday. “I feel good that we’re giving them a product that they can be proud of again. Hopefully that leads to more people showing up in Gallagher, to be honest, and the atmosphere getting back to where the people who were around in the early 2000s remember what it was like.” The post OSU Basketball to Hold Open Practice on Saturday in Tulsa appeared first on Pistols Firing. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() Chuba Hubbard had a banner day Sunday for the Carolina Panthers vs. the Eagles, making his second career start in place of injured superstar Christian McCaffrey. Leading the Panthers backfield, Hubbard rushed for 101 yards on 24 carries and also brought down five receptions — tied for a team-high on the day — to add 33 yards through the air. The Panthers fell to the Eagles 21-18, but Hubbard accounted for 101 of the team’s 109 rushing yards and 33 of the team’s 177 receiving yards. The Eagles entered the game ranked last in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game, and Hubbard gashed them with big plays like this on several occasions:
Hubbard became the first non-McCaffrey Panthers player to eclipse the 100-yard mark for the franchise since Jonathan Stewart did so in 2017. “I thought Chuba was excellent,” said Panthers coach Matt Rhule. “Looked like a couple times he was going to break it for a big one. I thought he caught screens, ran the ball well. I was pleased with him.” The post Chuba Hubbard Went Full Chuba Hubbard on Sunday vs. the Eagles appeared first on Pistols Firing. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() The AP Top 25 poll came out Sunday with OSU holding steady at No. 12, and boy oh boy do some voters think highly of the Pokes. The full voting history was released as well on Sunday and it revealed that several voters have OSU in their top 10 and one has OSU in their top five (!). That one is Kellis Robinett, who as a Kansas State beat writer for the Kansas City Star has already seen OSU firsthand.
Pac-12 insider Jon Wilner is high on OSU as well. He has them at No. 6 in his latest ballot, as does West Virginia writer Ryan Pritt. Meanwhile, Robbie Faulk, Aaron McMann and many others put the Pokes in their top 10.
It’s not wild to put a 5-0 team inside the top five, but it does seem revealing that the one voter who did go that far is one of the only voters who has actually seen OSU play up close and personal this season. If OSU wins this weekend on the road against Texas to improve to 6-0, I’d expect that will likely become more commonplace among voters who may be skeptical about the resume to date. For now, it’s a good sign that OSU has already bought some believers in Big 12 circles and those even outside the region are seeing the potential this team has as a top-10 team. The news came only a few hours after Mike Gundy sent a tweet that typically foreshadows a commitment from a recruit, though it’s unclear if Webber was the recruit in question:
Webber is a listed 6-foot-5, 290 pound offensive tackle who has garnered offers from 32 Division-I schools during his recruitment, including from OSU, Auburn, Missouri, Ole Miss and others. He visited OSU’s campus earlier this month on an official basis and all signs point here to OSU being in a great spot with Charlie Dickey operating as his main recruiter (followed closely it seems by this super cute horse that appears to have made an impression. Former OSU offensive lineman Zach Crabtree, also on OSU’s staff, has been involved in the recruitment, as well).
OSU has a strong 2022 recruiting class but landing Webber would be a huge boost not only to beat out other top programs but to add to the offensive line in the cycle. Thus far OSU has just one player committed at OL in Austin Kawecki, a high school senior, so adding a potential early contributor in Webber could go a long ways to solidifying depth for the Pokes in 2022 and beyond. OSU opened as a 5-point underdog in the matchup but that line has since moved to Texas -6 as of Monday. Barring a wild swing, it will mark just the second time this season that OSU will be an underdog in a game and it marks the second time it will happen on the road. OSU was also a slight underdog against Boise State in the nonconference slate before taking that one on the road, 21-20, despite a shorthanded skill group that led to a meager 6-of-13 passing line from Spencer Sanders. Texas has an explosive offense that should be a real threat to OSU and its defense this week but the Longhorns have lost twice this season. They fell 41-20 to Arkansas in Week 2 and are coming off a stunning collapse to rival Oklahoma from Saturday in which they lost 55-48. The program remained at No. 12 in the AP poll, its highest ranking all season after defeating BYE WEEK with ease, giving us this incredible stat that jumped at me:
OSU has reached the top 15 of the AP poll in 12 of the last 14 seasons. Not a typo. It’d be one thing to, I don’t know, find a spot somewhere in the AP Top 25 rankings, and I think that in itself would be worthy of some celebration. But landing in the top 15 of the rankings at some point in 86% of the last 14 seasons is bonkers stuff. Even more impressive is that OSU has been really, really good as a ranked team under Gundy, which in theory should help OSU leading into its ranked matchup against Texas on Saturday. The Cowboys with their win over Baylor a week ago improved to 27-22 vs. AP ranked opponents since 2011 and 16-8 in their last 24 games in such matchups. • Texas opened as a five-point favorite to the Pokes in Vegas • Matthew Wolff had a tough final round and finished second at the Shriner Children’s Open • ESPN’s power rankings have the Pokes as the No. 12 football team in the country • If anyone ever tells you “OSU is the only team with tight sidelines” – the answer is no.

Oklahoma State held an open practice at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City on Sunday afternoon. There were a few hundred fans in attendance. After the practice, fans got to go on the floor and take pictures and get autographs from their favorite Pokes. “These people care so much about our program,” OSU coach Mike Boynton said. “I feel good that we’re giving them a product that they can be proud of again. Hopefully that leads to more people showing up in Gallagher, to be honest, and the atmosphere getting back to where the people who were around in the early 2000s remember what it was like.” The Cowboys practiced at John Marshall ahead of the 2018-19 season. Boynton said there is an NCAA rule that prevents OSU from jumping around different OKC gyms, something recruiting related, so John Marshall’s gym has turned into somewhat of an OKC base for the Pokes. For the most part, it was a normal practice. The Cowboys started with a shootaround before stretching and going through some defensive stance drills and going on from there. The fans oohed and ahhed on dunks from Moussa Cisse and Bryce Williams. They clapped has Chris Harris and Keylan Boone hit 3s. The practice ended with some fan interaction. Boynton had three children in the audience come out and shoot free throws in front of the team. A related note: look out for John Marshall’s basketball team in seven or eight years. An older fan also came out for a shot. The fan struggled to get the ball up to the rim, so bouncy sophomore Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe caught the last attempt and turned it into a thunderous alley-oop to a chorus of cheers. Isaac Likekele was the only player who made the trip to John Marshall in 2018, making this one of the first fan engagement opportunities for a good chunk of the roster, especially because of the pandemic. It was an overall success. “I just feel like other teams around the state really don’t do that,” former Putnam City-West standout Rondel Walker said. “Some fans, we have some older fans here, they can’t really travel like that, so being that we’re 10, 15 minutes away from them, I feel like that’s great for Coach Mike to do, something to think about that not a lot of coaches think about.” Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe Expanding His GameSpeaking of Moncrieffe, the former four-star recruit hit a 3-pointer over 6-foot-10 Moussa Cisse during a 5-on-5 portion of the practice. It’s notable because Moncrieffe didn’t even attempt a 3-pointer in his freshman season. A 6-foot-7 athletic anomaly, Moncrieffe was impressive as a freshman, averaging nine points and 5.3 rebounds a game. Offensively, he is expected to be a piece of the puzzle that makes up Cade Cunningham not being on this season’s team. It’s not that Moncrieffe needs to be a sharpshooter from deep, but if he can at least keep defenses honest on the perimeter, it will only help his basket-attacking, slashing style. “He then changes who we can be from an upside standpoint because it’s an element of his game that he’s not had as a part of his package,” Boynton said. “We want him to continue to work on that and gain confidence. One of the ways you do that is not just working out, but then doing it practice. “… It’s something that as we continue to work on his skill development, it’ll be an area we focus on. But I wouldn’t imagine he’ll be a guy shooting four or five 3s a game for us at this point.” Hear from Boynton, WalkerThe post Cowboy Basketball Takes Over OKC appeared first on Pistols Firing. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. |
