It’s another Bedlam sweep for the Cowgirls. The Oklahoma State soccer team won a double-OT thriller against Bedlam rival Oklahoma on Thursday night at Neal Patterson Stadium. The Cowgirls won 3-2 after a golden goal from freshman Samaiah Phiri. The play started with Grace Yochum lacing a shot from outside the box that OU goalkeeper Une Georgsen couldn’t control. The ball rolled along the goal line, and Phiri hustled for the tap-in. Phiri’s goal put a blunt end to the Sooners’ comeback attempt. The Cowgirls went up 2-0 in the game with goals from Yochum and Megan Haines before the Sooners added a pair in the final 15 minutes to force OT. It’s the Cowgirls’ sixth win in a row in the Bedlam rivalry, and OSU has an all-time series lead of 30-9-4. The Cowgirls are 8-5-2 on the season with games against Texas and West Virginia to play before the Big 12 Tournament. As things sit, the Cowgirls are fourth in the Big 12 at 3-2-1. Texas is second (4-0-3) and West Virginia is fifth (3-2-2). The post Cowgirls Top Sooners in Double-OT appeared first on Pistols Firing. Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. Team LeadersPassing: Rushing: Receiving: Tackling: Sacks: Series HistoryAs Kyle Boone pointed out Thursday, the Cowboys hold a 33-19-3 record against the Cyclones since the programs first met in 1926. Mike Gundy’s Cowboys played Iowa State in his first season at the helm in Stillwater. The Pokes lost that game 37-10 after Al Pena threw for 203 yards, no touchdowns and four interceptions. Gundy’s first win against ISU came in the teams’ next meeting, in 2008. That 59-17 OSU victory saw Dez Bryant catch nine passes for 171 yards and four touchdowns. Zac Robinson threw for 395 yards and five touchdowns. Gundy is 10-3 against the Cyclones as a coach. Here are how the teams’ past 10 meetings have played out.

Only 11 teams that were in the Preseason AP Top 25 are still in the poll in Week 8. Parity has hit college football this season like a Malcolm Rodriguez double-leg scoop and drive, something that even a few of the nation’s blue bloods couldn’t avoid. Let’s take a look at the havoc.
*Coastal Carolina played its Week 8 game Wednesday night, a 30-27 loss to Appalachian State. It was the CCU’s first loss of the season. It’s a warzone. Even with Trevor Lawrence heading to the NFL, it would have been difficult to predict Clemson starting the season 2-2. But there were some predictable crumbles. One being, how the heck were five Pac-12 schools ranked. Oregon is all that remains in the Week 8 rendition of the poll. Miami entered the season off a Cheez-It Bowl loss to Oklahoma State yet somehow got some Top 15 love while OSU was the first team out of the poll. The Cheez-It Bowl’s most recent loser has beaten Appalachian State (by 2 points) and Central Connecticut State. I imagine the green and orange U on their helmet played a big part in the Hurricane’s preseason ranking. The Big 12 can’t escape the helmet sticker love, though. After bringing in a new coach and a new quarterback (two new quarterbacks) the Longhorns still got their token preseason ranking. Yet still, despite being a national media punching bag, the Big 12 doesn’t look the worst when it comes to this bit of hindsight. Here is the combined record for teams in the Preseason AP Poll by Power Five conference: Big 12 — 15-5, (.750) There are a lot of conclusions you could jump to off those numbers, but the myriad variables that go into it probably make some of those conclusions unfair. But man, the ACC sure seems pointless without a dominant Clemson. Now Wake Forest is carrying the ACC’s banner at 6-0. Shoutout to the Demon Deacons, but I’m not entirely sure a casual fan even knows what conference Wake is in. Mike Gundy has said all along that polls probably shouldn’t start coming out until October. He said he understands they give people something to talk about, but his viewpoint makes sense. It puts a further divide between the blue bloods and those aspiring to be nationally relevant. In the Week 8 poll, one-loss Baylor is parked behind two-loss Texas A&M and two-loss Auburn. Baylor’s one loss was on the road against the team ranked eighth in the current poll, and the Bears have beaten two Top 25 teams. How does this happen? A&M was sixth in the preseason poll. Auburn was receiving votes in it. It’s a systemic ordeal in college football that won’t ever be amended. It also plays a part in making the sport great, being able to get behind a plucky underdog that isn’t getting the respect it warrants. But, man is it sure a good time to poke fun at the process with the benefit of hindsight every once and a while.

We’re two days away from a pivotal showdown in Ames with OSU facing an unranked-but-resilient Iowa State team that likely enters the game as the favorite over the undefeated Cowboys. It’s a familiar position for OSU after twice being underdogs already on its way to a 6-0 record, but Saturday presents a different challenge schematically and athletically against an ISU team that traditionally has played Gundy’s group close. And yet … we’re still liking OSU’s chances here. Maybe not a blowout, but OSU has a real shot, we think, to get to 7-0 on the season Saturday. Below are our picks and predictions. Marshall ScottScore prediction: Oklahoma State 31, Iowa State 24 Thoughts: I think Iowa State is figuring a few things out, but with that said, the Cowboys have had the Cyclones’ number the past few seasons. Iowa State is 15-2 in October since 2017 and both of those losses came to the Pokes. A struggling 2019 OSU went in to Ames and won, so I think this wiser 2021 squad figures out a way to do it. Kyle BooneScore prediction: Oklahoma State 28, Iowa State 27 Thoughts: OSU’s defense will put up a big fight, but the big question, as ever this season, is going to be on the offensive side of the ball. Rinse, repeat analysis, right? If they can limit turnovers and move the ball through the air to complement the running game they’ll have a real shot. And my guess is they’ll have a gameplan to do exactly that. Kyle CoxScore prediction: Oklahoma State 35, Iowa State 21 Thoughts: I’m done doubting this defense (famous last words??). OSU has held its last four opponents — Boise State and the Big 12 schools — to at least nine points below their current scoring average. I think that trend holds this weekend and Cowboys offense continues to improve and maybe even puts a couple of halves together. By the way, the Cyclones are averaging just under 34 points per game. The all-time series between Oklahoma State and Iowa State appears close — OSU owns a 33-19-3 advantage overall — but it has definitively been a one-sided battle of late. OSU under Mike Gundy is 10-3 against the Cyclones under his tenure and 8-1 against them in the last nine meetings. That’s not to say it hasn’t been competitive — the last three wins for OSU in the series are by an average of only six points — but OSU has owned the series. And a win Saturday would mark its fifth consecutive win against ISU in Ames. Let’s dive into more of the numbers of this series history (with some fun nuggets courtesy of Winsipedia). • Iowa State’s last win in the series came in Stillwater in 2018 when it defeated No. 25 Oklahoma State 48-42. Brock Purdy, then a freshman, led ISU in passing and rushing. Taylor Cornelius threw for four touchdowns and 289 yards. Justice Hill had 66 yards on 24 carries and all of Tylan Wallace, Landon Wolf, Tyron Johnson and Jelani Woods scored touchdowns. • Of ISU’s five wins in the series since 2000, only two — 2001 (28-14) and 2005 (37-10) — came by greater than single digits. Both games were in Ames. • The largest margin of victory for OSU in the series came in 2008 when it won 59-17. The largest margin of victory for ISU in the series came in 1971 when it won 54-0. • OSU’s longest winning streak in the series spanned six games from 2012-2017. ISU’s longest winning streak spanned four games from 1960-1963. • The first game in the all-time series between OSU and ISU was played in 1926. OSU won 13-0. The two schools did not play again until 1960. • Only once have these two teams not settled their battle in regulation. (That came, you guessed it, in a double OT affair in 2011. We need not discuss.) OSU has won three of its last four overtime games overall. The post Series History: OSU Owns Advantage Over ISU, and Has Dominated of Late appeared first on Pistols Firing. Blocker cut his list to seven schools Sunday: Oklahoma State, Memphis, Baylor, Kansas, Gonzaga, Auburn and Arkansas. Blocker is a four-star point guard who OSU offered in July. According to the composite rankings, Blocker is the No. 95 player in the 2023 class, but 247Sports is quite a bit higher on him, listing him as the No. 34 player in his class. Blocker plays for Sunrise Christian in Bel Aire, Kansas, which is just north of Wichita. He is originally from Maumelle, Arkansas, which is north of Little Rock. Listed at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Blocker also has offers from Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Texas A&M and others.
