OSU reported that there are 17 active COVID-19 cases among its athletic teams, but none of those cases are on the football or soccer programs. All 17 fall under OSU’s “all other sports active cases.” Before this week, OSU also had a cross-country section, but that wasn’t on Monday’s release.
The 17 active cases are the second-most OSU has reported since giving these weekly updates in late August. The update of tests through Sept. 4 revealed 19 active cases of the virus, seven of which were on the football team. ![]() Since June 1, OSU reports it has had 145 cases of COVID-19, but again, only 17 of those are active. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will kick at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in Norman on ABC or ESPN. It will be the Cowboys’ first game this season that kicks past 3 p.m.
Three of the Sooners’ seven games have kicked at 6 p.m. or later this season. OU is 2-1 in those contests, beating Missouri State and Texas Tech while losing to Iowa State. Both Bedlam schools are off this week before the matchup that could determine both teams’ fates of getting into the Big 12 Championship game. Today, let’s talk about expectations moving forward, the offensive line and more. 1. OSU will get smacked in BedlamAnswer: Don’t believe it Call me a forever optimist all you want — and people do! — but I do not believe Bedlam after the bye week will be a bloodbath. OU is surging, sure, with wins in its last four over Kansas, Texas Tech, TCU and Texas. But none of those teams (outside Texas) really present a major threat. Oklahoma State absolutely does. It’s too early to start making predictions, especially given OSU’s uncertainty right now with injuries. But I like the matchup of an elite OSU defense taking on a freshman quarterback who has been somewhat mistake-prone, and I would be willing to bet this is a single-digit game one way or another in two weeks. 2. OSU’s offensive line is a problemAnswer: Kinda do, kinda don’t believe it I knew OSU’s offensive line was walked wounded, but seeing this on paper underscores just how thin the position group really is.
So, is it a problem? Yes and no. Yes in the fact that Bray was a projected starter, Springfield and Jenkins have been starters this season, and Birmingham and Anthony were starters prior to injury. When you’re down that many starting caliber lineman, you’ve obviously got some issues. But also no in the sense that, somehow, offensive line coach Charlie Dickey is piecing this thing together like Pablo Picasso. Despite all the injuries, OSU, with its top two running backs dinged up, still rushed for 167 yards against a formidable K-State defensive front on Saturday. Do you know how much Mike Gundy would’ve paid to rush for 167 yards in a game in 2014? We’re not that far removed from OSU’s offensive line struggling to find ways to spring TYREEK FREAKING HILL into open space! The hope here is that Jenkins and Springfield could use the bye week to get back close to 100% health, which would fix some issues. I’m not hitting the panic button by any means, but a unit that already had some depth issues coming into the season now struggling with injuries means there is little room for injury error moving forward. Not great. 3. OSU’s offense might be brokenAnswer: Don’t believe it As much as my eyes tell me I should believe this, this offense isn’t completely broken. It’s just not performing up to the level an OSU offense typically performs at. It ranks 44th in SP+ metrics and 57th (!) in total offense. So, it’s good but not great. Moreover, what we saw this weekend should be taken with a grain of salt the size of mars. This offense isn’t the same without Tylan Wallace, who didn’t take an offensive snap at all. As he recovers from a minor injury, we should expect something closer to competence starting in Bedlam in two weeks and moving forward. OSU Bullets• Happy Monday. If you have a tough moment this week, just remember where you were this weekend when Will Howard coughed up the game to the Pokes.
• Pokes stay at No. 14 in the AP and move to No. 13 in the Coaches • To frame just how unusual the “winning with defense” argument is in Stillwater under Mike Gundy, check out this stat:
• Here’s a take from former Cowboy head coach Pat Jones take that may turn some heads:
• The Masters is coming – and Cowboy alum Charles Howell is ready • Big Ben threw a TD to James Washington yesterday before he briefly left the game (Mason Rudolph finished two of three in middle relief) • Cool video of OSU in fall:
• Two weeks in a row that Emmanuel Ogbah has forced fumbles that went for six.
Non-OSU Bullets• Principle is inconvenient A dad tweet I can get behind:

Let’s back up a few plays. In the waning moments of the second quarter, Ben Roethlisberger took a hit to his left knee and came up gingerly. Ben pointed that knee out to the sideline but stayed in the game, finishing the drive 4-for-4 capped with a 17-yard touchdown to James Washington to put the Steelers on the board. Washington started Sunday but had fallen down the receiver pecking order as of late. After a season-high 68 yards and a score three weeks ago, Washington had totaled just two targets and zero catches the last two games. Fortunately, Roethlisberger still has confidence in the former Biletnikoff winner. Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell missed his first PAT since the season opener. Big Ben limped down the tunnel after his first score of the day. But to add some more Bedlam flavor to the pot, former Sooner CeeDee Lamb’s quick fumble gave Pittsburgh the ball back with just over a minute left. Mason Rudolph entered the game and completed 2-of-3 passes for 3 yards. But his drive did end with a score. Boswell attempted what would be a career-long 54-yard field goal. He missed but a Pittsburgh false start allowed for a 59-yard attempt which he made. Weird end result — Steelers are down just 13-9 with two quarters to go and possibly Mason Rudolph at the helm. But the gritty 2-point victory didn’t help them climb any higher in the minds of top 25 voters. OSU remained at No. 14 for consecutive weeks in the AP poll and dropped from 12 to 13 in the Amway Coaches poll. Let’s take a look at both Week 10 polls.
Formerly No. 1 Clemson dropped just three spots in each poll after its 47-40 double-overtime loss to Notre Dame, causing a shuffling in the top 4. Georgia also fell several places after its loss to Florida. Big 12 in the PollsJust behind the Cowboys in the Big 12 are Iowa State (17/16), Oklahoma (18/18) and Texas (21/24). The Cyclones survived against Baylor, Oklahoma KUed Kansas and Texas held off West Virginia. All four of those ranked Big 12 teams are off next week. With both in-state teams entering a bye week, we’re in store for the ninth ranked-on-ranked Bedlam in Mike Gundy’s career. Seven of those have been top 20 matchups. The post OSU Remains at No. 14 in AP Poll After K-State Win appeared first on Pistols Firing. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() In his postgame news conference, Mike Gundy joked that he had to practice at running back last week with Chuba Hubbard and LD Brown having to sit out most of the week nursing injuries. News started leaking out before Oklahoma State’s 20-18 victory against Kansas State that Brown wouldn’t play Saturday. But Hubbard seemed the more injured of OSU’s backfield, and luckily for the Pokes, Brown was able to push through his injury and lack of preparation during the week. “On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say [the pain] was about a four or five,” Brown said. “During the game it was just hard to cut. It got better. The adrenaline, it kept me going.” OSU’s offense was as flat as a western Oklahoma crop field in the first half, something that can be credited, in part, to limited practice time. Eventually the Cowboys were able to adjust to the speed of the game, and Brown was a big part in that. On only 15 carries, Brown toughed out 110 yards of the Cowboys’ 256 yards of total offense. One of OSU’s most impressive offensive plays of the day saw Brown spin away from a tackle at the line of scrimmage and scamper for a 23-yard gain. He got up slowly and had to be subbed out promptly after. Brown’s yardage total matched a career high. It’s just the third time in his career that he has eclipsed 100 rushing yards, but it’s his second 100-yard performance of the 2020 season. In a year where a lot has been difficult for OSU, Brown’s emergence and tenacity have been a major bright spot. “I’m happy,” Brown said. “We got a W, and we’re going into a bye week, body can rest then.” The post LD Brown Shines against K-State Despite Limited Practice Time appeared first on Pistols Firing. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. |
