![]() NORMAN — The Cowboys are looking to win consecutive games against the Sooners for just the sixth time in the series’ long history. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma kick at 6:30 p.m. at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. The Cowboys enter the game 7-3 while the Sooners limp in at 5-5. Follow along on this post for live updates from the game. TOUCHDOWN OU: OSU goes three-and-out, and OU responds with a nine-play, 93-yard touchdown drive. It’s 14-0, OU. TOUCHDOWN OU: OU marches right down the field and scores. The 75-yard drive took less than two minutes. It’s 7-0, Sooners. COIN TOSS: Oklahoma State wins the toss and defers. The Sooners will start the game with the ball. INJURY REPORT: Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders is set to make his first start since OSU’s loss to Kansas State. The Cowboys will, though, be without Tyler Lacy, Trace Ford, Jason Brooks and others. Dominic Richardson is questionable to play, according to Dave Hunziker. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() Oklahoma State is in Norman for Bedlam and the Cowboys will be wearing a new classic.
The Cowboys will wear an orange-white-orange uniform combination with a Cursive Cowboys helmet. A classic look for a classic rivalry. Should look nice against the Sooners’ own classic kit.
The Cowboys are 3-1 wearing orange-white-orange all-ime, debuting it in the 2012 season with a loss to Kanas State. The Cowboys beat UTSA in 2013 in those colors and then didn’t wear it again until recently. OSU beat Baylor in O-W-O in 2020 and West Virginia last year, with the same striped orange Cursive Cowboy lid. Speaking of a new classic, OSU has now worn some form of the Cursive Cowboys helmet four times this year. That’s more than the brand (three), full-size Pete (two) and Phantom Pete (one). OSU wore Cursive three times last season and twice when it debuted in 2020. Looks like that might be the new flagship helmet and I’m not mad about it. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() OFFICIAL RESULTS (Men) STILLWATER — The Cowboys were 0.2 seconds from claiming a fifth national championship in program history on Saturday morning. Running their home course, Oklahoma State lost via tiebreaker to Northern Arizona after the Cowboys entered the NCAA Championships as the No. 4 team in the country. The 0.2 seconds could’ve (should’ve, would’ve) came in two different spots. Alex Maier was OSU’s top finisher, finishing fifth with a 10K time of 28:58.2 — he was 0.2 seconds behind Tennessee’s Dylan Jacobs. OSU’s Victor Shitsama and Rory Lenard finished 31st and 32nd, respectively. Both clocked a 29:29.0 — 0.2 seconds behind BYU’s Davin Thompson. Had any of those three finished 0.3 seconds sooner, the Cowboys would be national champs. All five Cowboy scorers finished as All-Americans. It was an outstanding performance that was somewhat soured by just how close the Cowboys came. “I’m super proud of the guys,” OSU coach Dave Smith said. “We drew up a plan that we thought was a really good plan and it was executed absolutely perfectly — exactly what we asked the guys to do, they did and even exceeded our expectations. … We had five All-Americans — five guys in the top 31 six in the top 53. You promise me that every year, I’ll take it. I’ll take that without argument. That’s going to win most years, but not this year.” As live updates came to the video board at Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course, orange-clad fans thought on a few occasions their team had won the race before the final standings saw the Cowboys a spot below Northern Arizona despite both teams having 83 points. With the tight times, Smith asked for a video review, which revealed the Cowboys did, in fact come up just short. “I was at the 1K marker walking up, you hear the whole crowd cheering and thought, ‘Oh, we must’ve won,'” Smith said. “Then I hear ‘Ugh,’ and I thought, ‘Oh, crap we didn’t.’ Then everybody’s cheering again. ‘Oh, we won again.’ We won and lost like four times on my walk back up here.” OSU ran a strategic race. The Cowboys weren’t at the top of the leaderboard for much of the competition, but with each update, they’d gain a few spots. The Oklahoma State women finished fourth, their highest placing in team history. Two Cowgirls finished in the Top 15 with freshman Natalie Cook coming seventh with a 6K time of 19:46.3 and junior Taylor Roe coming 13th at 19:56.4. Dave Smith Post-Meet Interview![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() A lot of things would have had to fall the right way for the 7-3 (4-3) Cowboys to make it back to Arlington. Now that longshot has officially become a no-shot. With Kansas State’s 48-31 win over West Virginia, the Cowboys have officially been eliminated from the Big 12 title race. So Bedlam really is about who’s the best in the state. Bring on the battle for bragging rights. Early on, the Cowboys looked primed to return to the Big 12 Championship in back-to-back years. After getting off to a 5-0 start, the Cowboys let one slip away against TCU. (With the Horned Frogs now at 11-0 and currently in the CFP picture at No. 4, that loss doesn’t look quite as bad.) The Cowboys followed that up with a big homecoming win over Texas. But a pair of stinkers inside the Sunshine State — and an injured Spencer Sanders — dropped the Cowboys down a peg. Meanwhile, the Sooners have had their worst season this century. At 5-5 (2-5 in conference), OU has the most losses since the John Blake era. But the Sooners are favored at home and desperate to become bowl-eligible. Sanders returned at the end of the third quarter and helped the Cowboys complete a comeback win over Iowa State, and now he’s in Norman, aiming to join the short list of OSU quarterbacks to notch multiple Bedlam wins into his belt. The chaos commences at 6:30 p.m. at Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium. With the win the Wildcats move to 6-2 in Big 12 play and remain at No. 2 in the league behind TCU. Texas, which is currently up 41-0 over Kansas at time of writing, could still make the game if the Longhorns were to win out and the Wildcats were to lose their season finale. Texas plays Baylor at 11 a.m. Friday. Kansas State faces Kansas next Saturday in primetime with a chance to punch its ticket to Arlington. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() Oklahoma State will be missing some significant defensive playmakers when the Bedlam kicks off, but they do have back their star quarterback. As expected (and as he said last week), Spencer Sanders will start for the Cowboys in Norman on Saturday night. He is 1-1 as a starter against the Sooners. A win and he’ll join Tony Lindsay as the only Oklahoma State QB to earn two wins over OU in starts. Still out are star defense linemen Tyler Lacy and Trace Ford as well as safety Thomas Harper on defense. The Cowboys will also be without offensive lineman Jason Brooks due to illness and wide receiver Stephon Johnson Jr. Returning to the lineup is center Preston Wilson. OSU’s leading rusher Dominic Richardson is questionable. Richardson missed the Kansas State game with injury. He returned for Kansas and Iowa State but totaled just 92 yards combined in both games and has been banged up for a while. Lacy is missing his second-straight game but has dealt with health concerns for a few weeks. Ford also did not play last week against Iowa State. Harper had to sit out three of the previous four games. Johnson, who turned an ankle in practice, did not play against Iowa State. But he made significant contributions with the Cowboys shorthanded at receiver earlier in the year. He has 15 catches for 200 yards and a score. He turned in a career-high six catches for 90 yards in the win against Texas. ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() If the College Gameday crew’s picks determined the Bedlam victor, then it’d be Oklahoma State by the hair on its chinny chin chin. The ESPN panel on Saturday morning made its picks the annual Bedlam rivalry, and Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Lee Corso all picked the Pokes, outnumbering Kirk Herbstreit and guest picker Nick Faldo by a 3-2 margin. “I had to flip a coin for this one,” said Howard. “I think I’m going to go with the Cowboys. Go Pokes.” “I like them as well,” added McAfee. “Spencer Sanders going to be playing, so give me Oklahoma State.”
Faldo found a way to slip in a golf reference by taking a little shot at OSU alum Rickie Fowler and his bright orange outfits while eventually picking the Sooners. “Orange is so last summer,” he said. “I’m going with Oklahoma.” “I’m going to go with Oklahoma because of Eric Gray,” Herbstreit said of OU and its running back. “I think the line of scrimmage [will determine the game], so give me the Sooners.” ![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() If the thought of Bedlam football doesn’t immediately get your heart pumpin’ a little quicker than usual, then by golly the sights and sounds of a pre-game hype video about Bedlam football surely will. (And if that doesn’t, then perhaps check with your primary care physician immediately?) Because whoo boy Bedlam 2022 is here. I was already pretty jacked about it, but OSU on Friday released a hype video ahead of the game that has me ready and willing to run through my nearest brick wall. All the feels!
![]() Read this original article at Pistols Firing Blog. ![]() STILLWATER — In a battle of Cowboys, the Oklahoma State Cowboys rode the Wyoming Cowboys halfway back to Laramie. Oklahoma State beat Wyoming 34-3 on Friday night in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Aside two falls, all of OSU’s wins included a riding time point, and even the falls had more than a minute of riding time before the Wyoming wrestlers’ shoulders touched the mat. “I think when you see a lot of riding time like that, they’re focused on winning, and I’m OK with that for now,” OSU coach John Smith said. “We had some matches that I thought we’d get major decisions that we didn’t.” Daton Fix and Luke Surber each picked up pins, and both came in the first period. Fix built a quick 8-1 lead before ending the show. Surber just needed one takedown before finding a way to put Tyce Raddon (who wrestled up a weight) on his back. Dustin Plott was the only other wrestler to pick up bonus points, playing catch-and-release with Brett McIntosh. Plott scored seven takedowns on McIntosh en route to a 16-6 major decision. At 125, Trevor Mastrogiovanni picked up an impressive win over U20 World Champion Jore Volk. After a scoreless first period, Mastrogiovanni escaped to start the second. Then he rode the entire third. OSU’s only loss of the night came at 141 when Carter Young fell to Job Greenwood 4-3. Young was pushing hard for a late takedown as home fans cried out for a stalling call, but it wasn’t to be. Young is now 1-2 on the season. “I thought Carter Young actually wrestled a pretty good match,” Smith said. “… Carter was a lot better this week than his loss last week. I can live with it. I thought he was aggressive. I thought he was trying to find ways to put points up, but it just wasn’t enough.” The Cowboys have a bit of a break in their schedule before returning to action against Minnesota on Dec. 4 in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
