Malcolm Rodriguez and Kolby Harvell-Peel were first team All-Big 12 selections by the Associated Press, and now the media voters have labeled the pair All-Americans. Rodriguez, who was named to the FWAA All-American Second Team last week, was named a Second Team All-American by the AP on Monday. Harvell-Peel made an appearance as a Third Team selection. The pair are the Cowboys’ first defensive players to be named AP All-Americans since Justin Gilbert was a Third Team selection in 2013. It’s the first time since 1985 that OSU has had two defenders named AP All-Americans in the same season; Leslie O’Neal and Mark Moore were both First Team Selections back then. Rodriguez led OSU’s nationally dominant defense to the tune of 118 total tackles and 15 tackles for loss. He becomes OSU’s first AP All-American linebacker since Ricky Young in 1981. Rodriguez is just the third Cowboy linebacker to ever appear on an AP All-American team, joining Young and John Corker (1978). Harvell-Peel led the Pokes with three interceptions this season to go with 59 total tackles, which led all OSU defensive backs and was third on the team regardless of position. He becomes the fourth Mike Gundy-era defensive back (and the first safety) to be named an AP All-American, joining Gilbert (2013), Brodrick Brown (2011) and Parrish Cox (2009). You can see the full list of 2021 AP All-Americans here. The post Malcolm Rodriguez, Kolby Harvell-Peel Named to AP All-American Teams appeared first on Pistols Firing. The Cowboys took on the Sooners in Norman on Sunday and rolled to a dominant 31-3 win over their Bedlam rival. The dual kicked off with a big one at 149. OU’s starter for most of the season had been Mitch Moore. A concussion last week took him out and inserted Dom Demas vs. Kaden Gfeller. Demas got the first takedown, but Gfeller mounted a comeback to win 9-3. This was a big win and confidence builder for Gfeller as he returns to a starting role this season for the Cowboys. The most exciting match of the dual came at 157 with Wyatt Sheets and Justin Thomas went to sudden victory OT. Thomas got on a body lock and looked as though he would finish a throw to win when suddenly Sheets rolled through to avoid the takedown. After they went out-of-bounds a restart set Sheets back up to take a quick shot, which he did and scored on to get the 4-2 victory. The Cowboys rattled off four-straight comfortable wins from 165-197 before getting to heavyweight. Luke Surber and Josh Heindselman went to overtime. Surber took a shot but didn’t come away with a leg. Heindselman countered and picked up a single. As Surber dove underneath, he gave up a neutral danger zone count and two points to Heindselman. OSU challenged the call but was unsuccessful and Heindselman picked up OU’s first points of the dual. Back at 125, Trevor Mastrogiovanni and Joey Prata had a battle. Mastrogiovanni got the first takedown, but an escape and takedown for Prata had him up late in the first period. Mastrogiovanni got an escape to tie it at three going into the second period. Both Mastro and Prata got escapes and were tied up with seconds left in the third. In a reversal of the heavyweight match, Mastrogiovanni got a neutral-zone takedown with seconds left in the third period to win 6-4. Daton Fix dominated Anthony Madrigral and picked up a pin with a big lead late in the third and Carter Young closed things out with his first Bedlam match and win. A 9-4 decision over Jacob Butler. Then things got a little crazy during the handshakes. OU heavyweight Josh Heindselman shoved AJ Ferrari and Ferrari shoved back leading to the exchange in the video below. Wild finish to a dual that was completely dominated by the Cowboys. The Sooners come to Stillwater on February 20th.

Oklahoma State added its first offensive commitment for the 2023 cycle on Sunday when three-star offensive tackle Jack Endean made public his intention to play for the Cowboys. Endean hails from Tanque Verde High School in Tucson, Arizona. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound bruiser has enviable size and strength for a high school junior. But he’s more than just big and strong — as his below tape will show — he’s a fluid athlete that shows oodles of potential at the next level. The Cowboys got in on Endean early, representing his third offer in mid-November behind Arizona and Michigan State, and appeared to have closed the deal in short order. He was on-hand for OSU’s primetime Bedlam victory and ensuing field storming. With Endean’s pledge, the Cowboys move to No. 20 nationally in the class rankings according to 247 Sports and fourth the Big 12. He’s the No. 43 offensive tackle in 2023 and the 15th-rated prospect coming out of Arizona. The timing’s fortunate for OSU, as the enticing prospect has taken unofficial visits to Michigan, Washington and Nebraska over the last few months. With the way he moves on film, other offers were sure to follow. Have a look. Endean is the third addition to the Cowboys’ 2023 class, joining Louisianan safety Kam Franklin and Del City defensive lineman Jaedon Foreman. OSU Bullets• With all the questions swirling around the leadership of the Cowboys defense, the group will be stacked again in 2022. And the staff just helped fill one of its few holes at linebacker with junior college transfer Xavier Benson, who committed on Saturday. Signing Day is drawing near, but the Cowboys’ staff is still making plays. Xavier Benson committed to Oklahoma State on Saturday. Benson played this past season at Tyler Junior College, but he previously spent time at Texas Tech. He had offers from Indiana, Kansas, Memphis and others.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 211 pounds, Benson had 115 total tackles for Tyler this season including 15.5 tackles for loss. Benson initially went to Tech as part of the Red Raiders’ 2018 recruiting class. He redshirted in 2018 before working his way to being a 10-game starter as a redshirt freshman in 2019. He had 57 total tackles that season before opting out of the 2020 season and taking the junior college route. His process with the Cowboys went fairly quickly. He reported his OSU scholarship offer on Nov. 9 before taking a visit to Stillwater this week. Benson has two years of eligibility remaining and enters an OSU linebacker room that will lose starters Malcolm Rodriguez and Devin Harper after this season. Benson should provide competition for the likes of Mason Cobb, Kamryn Farrar, Nick Martin, Jeff Roberson, Donovan Stephens, Na’Drian Dizadare and others for reps at linebacker next season. OSU now has 16 commitments in its 2022 class. Benson joins Stillwater standout Gabe Brown as the class’ only linebackers. He’s the second junior college addition to the class, joining four-star offensive lineman Tyrone Webber. The early signing period starts Wednesday and goes through Friday. The first round of this season’s Bedlam wrestling at 5 p.m. Sunday in Norman on ESPNU. Let’s look at five intriguing storylines surrounding the dual. 1. Dom Demas and Mitch MooreAt 141 and 149 Oklahoma State has two new starters — true freshman Carter Young at 141 and Kaden Gfeller at 149. For OU to have a chance to win the dual, the Sooners would have to win these weights. At 141 we have not seen Dom Demas all season, though, and based on the rumblings out of the room, I wouldn’t expect to see him here this season. Mitch Moore went down with an injury at the Cliff Keen tournament in Las Vegas. It’ll be interesting to see what happens here. If they don’t role out the combo of Demas at 141 with Moore at 149, it’s going to be an uphill battle for the Sooners. 2. Ferrari vs. Jake WoodleyThis is the first in what could be a trilogy of really good matches this year between Woodley and Ferrari. There are a few wrestlers in the OU lineup that have made some gains recently, and Woodley is one of them. He’s had a solid season so far. If Ferrari goes out and dominates this, fans should feel an even higher level of confidence in him repeating as an NCAA champ again this season. 3. Nationally televised dual on ESPNUOklahoma State and Oklahoma have been blessed with something that very few programs get — nationally televised wrestling. If fans want this to keep happening, they need to keep watching. It’s a very cool thing that Bedlam gets this, and hopefully that continues. Some of it will be dictated by whether or not fans tune in.
4. Dustin Plott vs. Anthony MantanonaThese two split last year, but I think it’s one for OSU fans to watch. Mantanona is a talented kid, and Plott is starting to rack up a lot of ranked wins. If he’s going to continue his rankings rise and work towards getting into a top-eight seed at the NCAAs, he’ll need to win these types of matches. 5. Luke Surber vs. Josh HeindselmanWith Surber’s transition to HWT, he’s taken one tough loss to an Olympic Gold Medalist. Otherwise, he’s looked pretty solid. But this is his toughest test besides an arguably unwinnable match against one of the best wrestlers in the entire world in Gable Steveson. Heindselman has lost a few I wouldn’t have expected this season, so he’ll essentially be looking to bounce back, while Surber will look to continue his rise. Even if the dual is already decided before they get to heavyweight, this will be a big match for both of these guys. Three Thoughts• Good news: two of Notre Dame’s top players won’t be playing in the Fiesta Bowl • Starting with Monday night’s game against Cleveland State, the Pokes will have a chance to start working on their zone-busting • It’s hard to figure out how to frame his place in the OSU defense Patheon, but Malcolm Rodriguez is a consensus All-American linebacker Two Quotes• Man what a fun concept for OSU and OU in golf moving forward.
• Cade Cunningham isn’t a third of the way through his first season with a losing club but he’s got the right mindset:
One Question• Who are the three best defensive players in OSU history? I think the hard part here is “who’s the best player” vs. “who’s the best player on the best team” – I think a Kevin Williams is more the former while Malcolm Rodriguez is more of the latter Most Viewed of the Week• No. 1 OSU players react to Jim Knowles leaving • No. 2 Three potential candidates for the defensive coordinator opening • No. 3 Five-star offensive lineman Kelvin Banks recommitted from Oregon • No. 4 Ten Thoughts on the Big 12 title game loss • No. 5 What the seismic shift at Oklahoma means to Oklahoma State Non-OSU Bullets• Where to eat BBQ in Fort Worth – looking forward to checking some of these boxes
