The betting line for Bedlam opened last week at -6.5 for Oklahoma, meaning Oklahoma State is considered a 6.5-point underdog for this weekend’s rivalry showdown. The line has since ballooned in favor of OU.
FanDuel’s sportsbook. the same sportsbook that opened at OU -6.5, now has OU as a 7.5-point favorite, while William Hill sportsbook has OU as an 8-point favorite in its opening spread.
Whether that line shifts in the coming days or not, this truth will almost certainly remain the same: OSU will be the underdog in a game for the first time all season come Saturday. The Pokes haven’t been an underdog since last season, but they were 2-0-0 against the spread as away dogs and 4-1-0 against the spread as dogs regardless of venue. As away underdogs, they were 1-1 straight up.
Gambling lines give a good baseline for what to expect, but they are certainly not always accurate. OU has been favored in each of its games this season but are 5-2 on the year (though the Sooners have covered the spread in five of their seven outings on the year).
As for what to expect from a points perspective … not as many as you might think. FanDuel’s sportsbook has the over/under at 58.5, so with OU as a 7.5-point favorite, the implied points total projects OU to score 33 points and OSU to score 25.5. That would equal the lowest-scoring Bedlam battle since … last year.
