Most of the time special teams goes unmentioned unless something goes wrong, but the Cowboys have been dang good at the third phase of the game in recent seasons. And this week, the Pokes got a commitment that could continue that trend.
Owasso long snapper Jaxson Duffield on Tuesday announced his commitment to Oklahoma State. Duffield is the No. 10 long snapper in the 2025 class, according to Kohl’s, a service that evaluates specialists. Here is what the service said about him:
“Duffield has refined himself to be one of the best snappers in the country. He was very impressive during the Kohl’s Texas Showcase. He finished the day with an average snap time of .66 seconds and had tight ball rotation on each snap. Duffield followed up his dominant charting session by running a 4.93-second 40-yard dash. He has everything a coach is looking for in their starting snapper and the determination to be truly special.”
Excited to announce that I will be continuing my football and academic career at Oklahoma State University! #GoPokes #DAT @CowboyFB @CoachGundy @CoachFotehOSU @CoachZAllen pic.twitter.com/TIN7t1qbl2

He is one of 15 five-star long snappers in the class, according to Kohl’s. Duffield will join OSU as a walk-on.
Gundy knows the importance of special teams. It was something he often praised of Bill Snyder-led squads. The Cowboys had one of the best long snappers in the country a few seasons back in Matt Hembrough, who Gundy would often heap praise on during that 2022 season before Hembrough would go on to get signed by the Arizona Cardinals.
“You don’t ever talk about holders or snappers until they mess it up,” Gundy said in 2022. “Everybody just thinks it’s gonna happen. And when something doesn’t happen that’s favorable, then we start talking about it. But [Hembrough] should play in the pros for a long time.”
Duffield is certainly on a good track to continue a strong lineage of specialists at OSU. Here are some highlights from camps this spring of him working on his craft:
And here are highlights from his junior season at Owasso, where Duffield also played some tight end for the Rams.
