Coleman Scott will still be coaching an OSU.
Scott has joined the coaching staff at Ohio State’s RTC program, Ohio RTC, along with Kollin Moore, the club announced Tuesday. Scott served as associate head coach at Oklahoma State under John Smith last season but was relieved of those duties after Smith retired and David Taylor was hired to replace Smith. Scott was also named interim head coach after Smith’s retirement and during the search for Smith’s replacement.
“How can the idea of Coleman being here not get you fired up,” Ohio State associate head coach J Jaggers said in a press release. “It was kind of wild how this came to be. It started as just a loose idea that we kind of thought was a pipe dream, but over the past few months, through Coleman getting to know us and this place, along with him taking time off to determine what his next steps were going to be, we were able to work out a deal. I’ve known Coleman for 20 years, as we are in the same class and we were always wrestling in the same events. He’s someone I’ve always respected and felt was on the same wavelength as I/we were here at Ohio State with his approach to the sport and how to do things the right way. So having the chance to bring him to Columbus and a new dose of creativity/ideas is just super exciting.”

The Cowboys were revitalized with Scott on staff after two down years by OSU standards. The Pokes went 14-1 in duals last season and finished in 10th place at the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
Many believed Scott was next in line to replace Smith. He left a head coaching position at North Carolina to join Smith’s staff last year. Scott led UNC for eight seasons, accumulating a 75-49 dual record, the second-best winning percentage in program history at .605. He was an assistant at UNC for only one season before getting the head job. Scott’s coaching career began in Stillwater as a volunteer assistant under Smith for two years before he left for Chapel Hill.
Prior to coaching, Scott was a four-time All-American and NCAA individual champion in 2008 for the Cowboys. He then had a stellar international career, winning a bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012.
Tyler Caldwell is the only member of Smith’s final staff that remained on staff under Taylor. Assistant Chris Perry and recruiting coordinator Gary Wayne Harding have not yet announced their next moves. Taylor added Jimmy Kennedy as associate head coach, Thomas Gilman as assistant and Bryan Pearsall as recruiting coordinator.
