ORLANDO, Florida — The Cowboys will be without their starting left guard in the Sunshine State.
Dave Hunziker reported on Oklahoma State’s pregame radio show that Jason Brooks Jr. would miss Saturday’s game against UCF. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (Central). Brooks left the Cowboys’ Bedlam win against Oklahoma last week on crutches after Alan Bowman’s second quarter touchdown run. Hunziker also said they’d be on the look out for other injuries, presumably referencing OSU’s wide receiver situation with Jaden Bray, Blaine Green and Talyn Shettron.
Expect Cole Birmingham to get the nod at left guard, as he has been the one who has spelled Brooks throughout this nagging injury. Birmingham is a 6-foot-5, 325-pound redshirt senior from Katy, Texas. He started the year at left tackle before moving inside.
As for the receivers, OSU has been without Bray, Green and Shettron since the Cowboys’ trip to Morgantown. Green suited up and went through warmups last week but didn’t play in the game.
That’s led to a heavy dose of Rashod Owens and Leon Johnson III on the outside the past few weeks. That duo combined for 15 receptions for 206 yards against Oklahoma.
