For the sixth time in the WNBA’s history, the Cowgirls have a draft pick.
The Chicago Sky took Natasha Mack in the second round of Thursday night’s WNBA Draft, making her the 16th overall selection.
She is the first OSU player since Loryn Goodwin in 2018 to be selected in the WNBA Draft.
Player | Year | Team | Round (Overall) |
---|---|---|---|
Mack was the Naismith Women’s Defensive Player of the Year this past season after averaging 19.8 points, 12.4 rebounds, four blocks and two steals a game. She led the Cowgirls in all four of those categories as OSU finished the year 19-9. The Cowgirls fell to eventual national champion Stanford in the NCAA Tournament’s second round.
Mack’s 112 blocked shots this season led the NCAA. She also finished fourth nationally in rebounds and tied for 18th nationally in total points. Her 19 double-doubles tied for second nationally.
Many outlets named Mack an All-American, and as well as being the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, the WBCA also named her the Defensive Player of the Year.
At 6-foot-4, Mack hails from Lufkin, Texas. Before coming to Stillwater, Mack was the JUCO player of the year at Angelina College in Lufkin.
In just two seasons with the Cowgirls, she set the program blocks record. She recorded 208 blocks. Kaylee Jensens, who played four seasons, is second with 175 blocks.
Her 38 double-doubles career double-doubles tie for the third-most in program history. She also has the 11th-most rebounds in program history at 683.
At times this year, Mack was projected as the No. 5 pick in the draft. In ESPN’s mock draft that released Thursday, she was down as the last pick in the first round before falling to the second round. That gave her a chip on her shoulder.
