The NFL’s regular season has come to an end, and now the real fun starts. Fortunately for Oklahoma State fans, several of their favorite former Cowboys are set to see some action during Wild Card Weekend.
Let’s take a look at which Pokes have made the playoffs, how to watch and what to expect, starting with Saturday night’s AFC matchup.
Emmanuel Ogbah, Tyreek Hill Return to KC
What: No. 6 Miami Dolphins at No. 3 Kansas City Chiefs | AFC Wild Card
When: 7:15 p.m. Saturday
Watch: Peacock
Wager: Chiefs -3.5
Both Ogbah and Hill will return to face their former team, the Chiefs, in Kansas City. But the two former Cowboys’ paths have diverged this season.
When Hill showed up in South Beach last season, he quickly took the Dolphins’ offense to a new level and is a legit MVP candidate in 2023. But Ogbah had fallen out of the rotation until an injury to Bradley Chubb thrust him back into action on Sunday. After two straight inactives, Ogbah started his first game of the year in the Dolphins’ loss to Buffalo. He logged four tackles and a tackle for loss, but the Phins will need an even bigger game from him as they face a Kansas City Chiefs offense that has a knack for going ballistic in the postseason.
Mason Rudolph, Jaylen Warren to Brave the Cold in Buffalo
What: No. 7 Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 2 Buffalo Bills | AFC Wild Card
When: 12 p.m. Sunday
Watch: CBS
Wager: Bills -9.5
After Week 15, the Steelers were 7-7, out of the playoff picture, in danger of their first losing season under Mike Tomlin and down to their third quarterback. Fortunately for them, that third quarterback was Mason Rudolph.
Rudolph stepped on the field for the first time this season at the end of Pittsburgh’s 30-13 loss to Indianapolis, but he was handed the reins in shortly after, and the Steelers finished the year 3-0 and have ridden Rudolph back to the playoffs.
“We’re just simply staying with the hot hand and not disrupting the apple cart,” Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday. “We’ve been in some tough circumstances. He’s delivered, we’ve delivered and so we will continue in that vein.”
Things won’t be easy for the former OSU record-setter, as the Steelers head to a Buffalo for a cold and likely snow-filled matchup with the Bills. Rudolph will square off with Josh Allen, who’s used to digging his car out of the snow, and will likely need to lean on his dynamic 1-2 running game punch of Najee Harris and fellow OSU alum Jaylen Warren.
Jason Taylor II vs. Malcolm Rodriguez
What: No. 6 Los Angeles Rams at No. 3 Detroit Lions | NFC Wild Card
When: 7:15 p.m. Sunday
Watch: NBC
Wager: Lions -3
Justice Hill, Tylan Wallace Watch from Home
This is the way you want to watch the Wild Card round if you’re an NFL player. As the AFC’s top seed, Baltimore will enjoy a bye week and will watch to see who they will face next weekend.
Both former Cowboy playmakers have had a hand in Baltimore’s strong finish, starting with Wallace’s walk-off punt return touchdown in Week 14. That overtime win over the Rams kept the Ravens atop the league, and they kept winning until they tied up the top seed in the AFC. Wallace even caught his first pass of the season in the season finale against Pittsburgh.
Justice Hill seems to have finally carved himself a role in the Ravens’ stout rushing game and even had his own return TD in Week 17 against Miami. Baltimore did sign four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook for their potential Super Bowl run, so it will be interesting to see how that affects Hill’s touches.
The Ravens will face the AFC’s lowest surviving seed in the Divisional Round either Jan. 20 or 21.
