Mike Boynton has done most of his roster-building work this offseason in the transfer portal, but he has apparently been in the junior college market, as well.
Oklahoma State made the Top 6 for South Plains College guard Rivaldo Soares on Friday afternoon along with Oregon, Florida, DePaul, St. John’s and San Diego State.
South Plains is the same program Boynton plucked Bernard Kouma from last offseason.
A 6-foot-6 guard originally from Boston, Soares averaged 15.2 points a game this past season, shooting 45% from the field and 35% from 3-point range. A big guard, he also averaged 6.8 rebounds a contest as a sophomore.
“Coach Mike and staff have done a great job,” Soares told Adam Zagoria. “He is a really good coach. And looking to continue their run to more NCAA Tournaments.”
He has a similar play style to former Cowboy Jeffrey Carroll. Soares scored 20 or more points in five of the final nine games he played in this past season.
With portal additions Woody Newton (Syracuse) and Tyreek Smith (Texas Tech), OSU has two scholarships to give for next seasons roster.
