One Cowboy made some history on Day 1 of the MLB Draft, and five more heard their names called on Monday.
After being selected 19th overall in the first round on Sunday night, Carson Benge got to cheer on five of his teammates who heard their names called on Monday. Let’s take a look at the Cowboys drafted in Rounds 3-10.
Brian Holiday | St. Louis Cardinals | Round 3 (80th)
The Cowboys’ ace was selected in the third round (80th overall) by the Cardinals. The RHP went 7-3 during his lone season in Stillwater and led the Big 12 with 128 strikeouts, good for eighth most in a season at OSU.
Zach Ehrhard | Bost Red Sox | Round 4 (115th)
The Sox still like Zach. Boston took Ehrhard with their fourth-round pick. He lit it up during his three years at OSU and capped it with All-Big 12 First Team campaign in 2024. The Red Sox selected Ehrhard out of high school in the 13th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
Janzen Keisel | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Round 6 (186th)
The former BYU transfer spent his last two years in Stillwater and went 2-1 in eight starts in 2024. Keisel entered the transfer portal this offseason and committed to Oregon.
Robert Cranz | Washington Nationals | Round 7 (200th)
In his first year at OSU, Cranz made a big impact in 2024. The Wichita State transfer was huge out of OSU’s bullpen, making a team-high 30 appearances in relief and was 2-1 with two saves and logged a 1.63 ERA.
Sam Garcia | Milwaukee Brewers | Round 8 (245)
Another newcomer to OSU’s staff this year, Garcia made 16 starts and went 7-3. His 3.65 ERA ranked sixth in the Big 12, and he ranked 11th nationally with a strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.05) and was 18th nationally with 115 strikeouts.
Continued Pro Success Under Josh Holliday
With Holiday and Erhard following Benge, this was just the fourth time in school history and first time since 2007 that three Pokes were taken in the first five rounds.
That total of six is good for the second-most Cowboys drafted in the first 10 rounds behind seven in 2022. It’s the third time in a row and sixth overall that OSU had have at least five drafted in the first 10 rounds.
