In the first of this year’s weekly College Football Playoff rankings, Oklahoma State landed toward the bottom of the selection committee’s Top 25, coming in at 23rd.
Following their loss to Oklahoma in Bedlam, the Cowboys dropped from 14 in both the AP and Amway Coaches polls to 21 and 22, respectively. So a debut at 23 isn’t much of a surprise.
Nothing too shocking to discuss from the committee’s ranking but some interesting starting points for several teams as this COVID-shortened process goes on.
Like how about 5-1 Texas A&M starting at fifth. That means if they win out against LSU, at No. 22 Auburn and at Tennessee, the Aggies would be sitting very pretty to punch their ticket to their first ever Final Four. In a year with so much upheaval, wouldn’t it just be perfect for the SEC to get two teams in?
As far as local flair goes, the Cowboys are the lowest-ranked Big 12 team behind Oklahoma (11), Iowa State (13), and Texas (17) all listed higher than their AP rankings. Tulsa caps the ranking at 25th.
OSU debuted in last year’s rankings (then Week 10) also at No. 23 and ended the with a 25th poll spot in the committee’s final ranking of 2019.
Here’s a look at the complete ranking as the committee sees things as of Week 13.
