The transfer portal has dominated recruiting discussions this offseason, but Mike Boynton and his staff are still reaching out to prospects the old-fashioned way.
Since mid-April, Oklahoma State has doled out a handful of future offers. Here is a recap of those.
Asa Newell | F | 2024
Mike Boynton is the first Division-I program in on a 6-foot-8 high school freshman from Florida.
Asa Newell announced his OSU offer April 13. There isn’t a ton of info out on Newell in terms of rankings, as he won’t graduate until 2024. But he plays for Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He plays summer ball with 1Family.
He is a lefty with the ability to catch-and-shoot from 3 as well as play in the post. It won’t be long until Boynton looks like a genius for being the first to offer Newell.
Justin Edwards | G | 2023
Out of Philadelphia, Edwards is the No. 53 player in the 2023 class.
OSU offered Edwards Tuesday, joining DePaul, Virginia Tech, Seton Hall, Drexel and Temple.
Another lefty, Edwards is listed at 6-foot-6 and looks to be a three-level scorer. He plays his preps ball with the Imhotep Institute and plays on the AAU circuit with Team Final.
Amani Hansberry | F | 2023
Oklahoma State became the latest to offer 2023 power forward Amani Hansberry on Friday, joining Texas A&M, Tennessee, DePaul, Virginia Tech, LSU, Mississippi State and others.
Listed at 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, he is the No. 35 player in his class. He plays at St. John’s in Washington D.C. He is a raw, strong and athletic big who has nice touch around the rim and a reliable jump shot.
Here are highlights from his high school freshman season.
Wesley Yates | G | 2023
Out of Beaumont, Texas, Yates is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard who already boasts offers from Illinois, TCU, Tulsa, IUPUI and Lamar. OSU joined that group April 21.
As a sophomore this past season, Yates averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.5 steals a game.
Ja’Kobe Walter | G | 2023
Ja’Kobe Walter, the No. 16 player in the 2023 class, announced his OSU offer April 15. The Cowboys join the likes of Baylor, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Memphis, SMU and TCU after Walter’s services.
He is a 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard from McKinney, Texas.
Here is what 247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins wrote about Walter in January:
Walter is a scorer with long arms who can knock down shots with range. He can be a little streaky with his jumper which impacts his production on the offensive end of the floor. A tighter handle could only enhance his production in that area. His first step at times is heavy and tends to be in the stiff range when it comes to changing direction off the dribble, but he has a nice upside and suits up for a McKinney program that gives him the green light to learn the game through trial and error, which only helps transform his potential into production.

Cameron Barnes | C | 2023
An AAU teammate of Walter on Team Trae Young, Cameron Barnes is a 6-foot-10, 200-pound center from Duncanville.
OSU offered Walter and Barnes together on April 15. Along with his OSU offer, Barnes has offers from Baylor, Texas A&M, SMU, Memphis and Wichita State.
Despite being a 6-10 high school sophomore, Barnes has good coordination and isn’t overly clumsy. He has a good post hook and post fadeaway, which should provide solid building blocks for him moving forward.
James Johns | G | 2023
OSU offered James Johns, a 6-5 guard, Thursday, joining Miami, Ole Miss and Texas A&M. St. John’s offered Johns shortly after.
From New Jersey, Johns played at The Rock School in Florida this past season.
Alex Karaban | F | 2022
OSU offered Alex Karaban on Monday.
A 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward from Massachusetts, Karaban is the oldest player on this list, being in the Class of 2022.
He is the No. 73 player in his class, making him a four-star prospect. He also holds offers from Indiana, Purdue, Boston College, Creighton, Georgetown, Iowa State, Marquette, Stanford, Virginia Tech and others.
