On this 12th day of July, there are 50 days left until Oklahoma State kicks off football season.
The Cowboys start their 2024 season against back-to-back FCS champion South Dakota State on Aug. 31 inside Boone Pickens Stadium. With 50 days of anticipation left and only building up from here, here are 50 reasons to look forward to OSU’s football season in 2024.
- The Cowboys have a Heisman contender in running back Ollie Gordon.
- OU can no longer hurt you.
- OSU returns all of its starting offensive linemen.
- There will not be a three-quarterback fiasco with Alan Bowman returning.
- The Sheriff is back in town. Alan Bowman returns for his seventh season of college football.
- And he has a sick mustache.
- Brennan Presley is also back.
- Arkansas, hailing from the mighty SEC, will be in Stillwater Week 2.
- OSU also added former Indiana running back Trent Howland to give Ollie a breather.
- OSU fans in the 918, the Cowboys will be in your backyard Week 3 to play Tulsa.
- Trips to beautiful Provo, Utah, and Boulder, Colorado, during what will be fall break and Thanksgiving break throughout the state
- No trips to the Eastern Time Zone
- Big 12 newcomer Arizona State, which OSU has beaten the past two seasons, will be in Stillwater for America’s Greatest Homecoming.
- Speaking of homecoming, OSU will play former Cowboys Braylin Presley (Tulsa), Jaden Bray (West Virginia) and D.J. McKinney (Colorado).
- West Virginia and Texas Tech will also make trips to Stillwater.
- Texas, the team that beat OSU out of a Big 12 title last season, is bye bye.
- OSU will be in Year 2 of Bryan Nardo’s defense.
- Kendal Daniels, at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, will play closer to the line.
- There’s comfier stadium seating at BPS.
- An expanded College Football Playoff to 12 teams
- A home playoff game at BPS because of that expanded CFP?
- Getting to eat a Dirty Curty at BPS
- Celebrating wins under the palms
- Sweet-peppered bacon cheese fries before a Big 12 matchup
- The OSU Cooooooowwwbooooy Marching Band
- Getting scared by Pistol Pete before chanting “O-S-U!”
- “Orange Power” chants
- The fountain getting dyed orange
- Trying to predict uniform combos
- Hoping for a new helmet logo for big games
- Seeing OU co-workers after the Sooners have lost two games in a row in the SEC
- Another stadium stripe at BPS?
- A weekend in November with OSU notching wins in football, basketball and wrestling
- OSU gets to welcome new conference favorite Utah to the Big 12 in its conference opener Sept. 21.
- No UCF on the schedule
- A date between Gundy and Coach Prime
- We get college football whenever we want with EA Sports bringing back College Football 25.
- Leslie O’Neal will join the Cowboy Ring of Honor.
- Tailgates throughout campus
- Hopefully finally getting a glimpse of Zane Flores at some point.
- A full healthy season for De’Zhaun Stribling
- No one throwing near Korie Black.
- Singing “Friends in Low Places” with all of your friends in a low place.
- Here comes Bullet!
- Buying that cool sweatshirt Gundy wore on the sidelines the Saturday before.
- Nick Martin could record 500 tackles.
- The name “Willie Nelson” is on the Cowboys’ roster even though the other one warned mamas to not let their babies grow up to be Cowboys.
- All the Smiths in the secondary
- A healthy Justin Wright on defense
- PFB will be there to cover it all.
