1790 - French Revolution: The National Assembly issues a decree abolishing the titles, orders and other privileges of the French nobility
1865 - Juneteenth: Union General Granger declares slaves are free in Texas, now this date is celebrated as the end of slavery across the US
1941 - Soviet anthropologist Garasimov opens the tomb of Timurid Empire founder Timur and allegedly finds the inscription that whomever opens the tomb shall “unleash an invader more terrible than I”; 3 days later Hitler invades Russia
1964 - Civil Rights Act of 1964 passes
1973 - The Rocky Horror Picture Show stage production opens in London (pictured)
2017 - 1st full genetic study of cats reveals they were domesticated 9000 years ago, and descended from 1 species - the African Wildcat
2019 - UN says over 70 million people in the world are displaced, asylum seekers, or refugees; highest number in 70 years
