1814 - A beer flood occurs in London, killing 9 (pictured)
1904 - Bank of Italy (Bank of America) opens its doors in San Francisco
1907 - G Marconi’s company begins the 1st commercial transatlantic wireless service between Nova Scotia, Canada, and Ireland
1933 - Albert Einstein arrives in US as a refugee from Nazi Germany
1943 - Burma Railway, aka Death Railway, completed; Built by Allied POW’s and Asian laborers for use by the Japanese army; Bridge on the River Kwai is part of it.
1961 - NY Museum of Modern Art hangs Henri Matisse’s “Le Bateau” upside-down; it wasn’t corrected until December 3rd
1979 - US President Carter signs legislation creating Department of Education
2008 - Iran’s attempt to create the world’s largest sandwich fails when crowds eat it before it can be measured
2019 - Mick Mulvaney, President Trump’s acting chief of staff, says the White House withheld nearly $400 million in military aid from Ukraine to further Trump’s own political interests
