1917 - Balfour Declaration proclaims support for a Jewish state in Palestine
1932 - The “Great Emu War” begins: Australian soldiers armed with Lewis Guns sought to cull the emu population over crop destruction; though many birds were killed, the emu population persisted and continued to cause crop destruction
